  • The winner will represent Thailand in an international competition in Australia this coming September to vie for prices worth more than 500,000 baht.
  • Fuelwatch Competition 2012, Volvo Group’s strategic drive for environmental care and energy-saving awareness.

Volvo Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the sole manufacturer and distributor of Volvo trucks and large passenger buses in Thailand from Sweden, announces a “Fuelwatch Competition 2012”, a nationwide search for Thailand’s most fuel-efficient truck driver to compete against the best of Asia Pacific in a regional competition in Melbourne, Australia in September this year.

Mr. Jacques Michel, President, Volvo Group (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said the annual Fuelwatch Competition is customer-outreach initiative by Volvo Trucks to seek the most fuel-efficient truck driver in Thailand. Fuelwatch, organized for the third consecutive year, focuses on boosting fuel efficiency to improve profitability while emphasizing safety measures and environmental conservation.

Application rules to the Fuelwatch Competition 2012, however, have become more challenging. Entries will now be classified into 4 groups according to region: North, East, Central and South of Thailand. All applicants must be certified by the organization or company they are working for with each company restricted to a single entry only. In the selection stage, all participants must pass a written and truck-driving test, and selected from all participants to only 24 people will be eligible to compete in final round.

The winner will be the top fuel-efficient driver of Thailand and also representative to compete with the winners other countries in the Asia Pacific Drivers Fuel Challenge.

“We want Fuelwatch to become a model for all heavy-duty truck driving competition. It’s a real challenge as the successful contestant must achieve more than 85% on the written test, an essential step before competing to be Thailand’s representative.” added Mr. Michel.

For the semi-finals and the final round of the Thailand competition, the finalists will be selected based on lowest percentage of fuel consumption within the time limit set in real track tests. Volvo has already prepared several tracks in Bangna, Saraburi, Rayong and Nakorn Sawan for the contest.

Should competitors gain equal points on the race track, the deciding factor will be the date of application for the competition. The contender that applied the earliest will be chosen to compete in the Final on Saturday July 28, 2012 at Prachuab Kirikhan Province.

Apart from representing Thailand in the Asia Pacific Drivers Fuel Challenge in Australia, the Thai champion will also be awarded with more than 500,000 baht in prizes, a travel package to Australia and a certificate from Volvo group. Winner of the Asia Pacific Drivers Fuel Challenge will be presented with a package tour to Sweden which includes a one night stay in the Ice Hotel.

First runner-up will receive prizes valued more than 80,000 baht while second runner-up will receive prizes worth 40,000 baht. All 24 organization or businesses sponsoring contestants will receive gift prizes of 120 litres of engine oil worth 13,900 baht.
