SAIC Motor-CP Co, Ltd launches MG’s four “History for Future” cars for the first time in Thailand at the 30th Thailand International Motor Expo 2013. The MG A, MG B, MG ICON and E50 models will be on display from November 29 to December 10, 2013 at IMPACT Challenger 1-3, Muang Thong Thani. The company plans to introduce MG6 as the first model to be sold in Thailand in 2014.

Mr. Wu Huan, President of SAIC Motor-CP Co, Ltd said SAIC Motor-CP is a Thai-Chinese joint venture between Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, (SAIC) one of the biggest car manufacturers in China. The company will manufacture and distribute vehicles under the British-based MG brand. Under the joint venture, SAIC holds a 51-per-cent stake in the manufacturing firm, with the rest held by CP Group.

“The company will appoint at least 30 dealers in Bangkok and major cities at the initial stage. Last year SAIC Motor-CP has decided to construct a 9 billion baht worth new assembly plant in Rayong’s Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate for right-hand-vehicle manufacturing. It is located near Laemchabang port which will be easy for exporting to other countries,” added Mr. Wu Huan.

Mr. Anthony Williams-Kenny, Global Chief Designer for MG in Longbridge, England, and in Shanghai said that this is a good opportunity for MG to enter the Thai automotive market with confidence. We are proud to present four of our History for Future models namely MG A, MG B, MG ICON and E50 at the 30th Thailand International Motor Expo 2013.

“With MG’s glorious history, we brought the MG A, a famous sports car produced by the British Motor Corporation from 1955 to 1962 represent a complete styling break from the older vehicles while the MG B, a replacement of the MG A presents an innovative, modern, design in 1962 at the event to remind Thais and marks our first step in Thai market,” said Mr. Anthony Williams-Kenny.

Above and beyond, the authentic British octagon brand-MG is also displaying MG Icon, the stunning and award-winning concept car as one of its highlight at the booth to showcase its global sophisticated innovation and design.

The Icon is MG's first SUV concept. It takes inspiration from some of the brand's most famous sports cars including the MG A and MG B. The MG Icon highlights a global vision for MG's design and represents a milestone for the brand.

"The MG brand has a unique set of values and heritage and allows us to offer individual design values to our products," Mr. Anthony Williams-Kenny explained. "The MG Icon represents our vision of a modern MG and we feel that the SUV canvas demonstrates MG’s capacity for progressive design with respect for its long heritage. We have balanced familiar brand cues, such as the width and powerful front end graphic interpretation and, as one would expect, with a strong focus on the unique MG octagon."

The 4th highlight of MG cars is E50, the completely developed and owned by SAIC Group. It utilizes a newly developed vehicle platform designed for pure electric vehicles from interior to exterior. During the placing of electric motors and batteries and body design, the balance between vehicle performance and ergonomics was well considered to achieve best space in the car and to meet the performance objectives of the entire vehicle, reducing human body injury in collision, which significantly improves the safety performance of the vehicle.

“The E50 proves to the world that SAIC has been capable of developing a new platform for new energy vehicles, manufacturing key parts and components, and mass production of new energy vehicles. The company is also capable of developing a whole-new platform for new energy vehicles, developing models, designing entire body, as well as sustained R&D and innovations,” Mr. Anthony William-Kenny concluded.
