Bangkok--23 May--Mitsubishi Motors

Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. continued with its growth momentum in the first quarter of 2018, recording a year-to-date (YTD) sales of 20,696 vehicles. This represents a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 22.2 percent compared with the same period last year. Total industry volume for the same period was 237,090 units, representing a growth of 12.6 percent compared with the same period in 2017. This means Mitsubishi Motors Thailand has once again outgrown market performance. This accorded the automaker with a market share of 8.7 percent, an 0.7 percent increase compared to same period of 2017.

In March alone, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand sold 8,008 vehicles, representing a growth of 17.6 percent over the previous month and a 15.8 percent growth compared with the same month in 2017.

Mr. Morikazu Chokki, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co., Ltd. said, "We carried the growth momentum from last year and made a good start to 2018. Mitsubishi Motors Thailand recorded incremental month-on-month sales growth throughout the first quarter of this year. It shows we are on the right track. Building on a successful first quarter, we will continue to focus on our commitment to our drivers by offering exciting new products, marketing activities and customer services."

Mitsubishi Motors Thailand's strong Q1 was primarily driven by the Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck with total sales of 10,373 units, representing a YoY growth of more than 30 percent. The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport maintained its popularity with a total of 3,088 units with more than 20 percent of PPV market share in the first quarter. City cars Mitsubishi Attrage and Mitsubishi Mirage made up a total of 7,235 units, representing a YoY growth over 40 percent. Special editions of Mitsubishi Triton Athlete, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Limited Edition and Mitsubishi Mirage Limited Edition enhanced the popularity of Mitsubishi vehicles amongst drivers.

In addition to success in sales, Mitsubishi Motors Thailand also will soon mark another major achievement in its history in Thailand, celebrating its fifth-million unit production milestone at its facility in Laem Chabang. The facility at Laem Chabang is the biggest outside Japan, capable of producing 424,000 vehicles a year, with exports going to 120 countries. The output here plays an important role in supporting Mitsubishi Motors' growth in the ASEAN region as well as globally.

"We are more than ready to continue our outstanding role of pioneering new segments and following our global brand strategy 'Drive Your Ambition'. The wait for Mitsubishi XPANDER is almost over as we will be launching it in the middle of this year, along with new model year products and special editions. We are confident for the remainder of the year," said Chokki.

'Drive Your Ambition' is Mitsubishi Motors' global brand strategy, formed upon the basis of commitment to pioneering new segments and technology, while innovating and enhancing hard and soft technology into human-centric packages. It aims to deliver versatility, driving confidence and functionality to Mitsubishi drivers.

The outlook for the automotive industry continues to be favorable at the beginning of the second quarter of 2018, hence overall growth could accelerate for the rest of the year.
