Makro organizes the 5th Hotel, restaurant and catering festival or Makro HoReCa 2010 to prove its comprehensive leadership in the business.

Makro teams up with over 260 business partners, government agencies and private companies to organize the Makro HoReCa 2010 at the IMPACT Exhibition Center (Halls 2 and 3) in Muang Thong Thani Housing Estate on March 18-21, 2010. The 5th HoReCa (hotel, restaurant and catering) event features career promotions, income generation tips and chances for operators to experience innovations in food businesses. Professional chefs, stars and artists who are experienced in food and hotel businesses are there to share their ideas and expertise throughout the four-day event.

Mrs Suchada Itthijarukul, the managing director of Siammakro Public Company Limited, says that the company organizes the Makro HoReCa 2010 festival at Halls 2 and 3 of the IMPACT Exhibition Center in Muang Thong Thani on March 18-21, 2010, with the theme of “increasing business values and developing on innovations constructively” to enable hotel, restaurant and catering (HoReCa) operators who are Makro members and general operators to increase their competitiveness and develop the standard of their food and service businesses. The event enjoys sponsorship from over 260 business partners of Makro including Nestle (Thai) Ltd, Pacific Fish Processing Co (PFP), ThaiNamthip Co, government and private organizations, and the Thai Restaurant Association which are organizing activities to increase the skills of operators.

In this year’s fair, the company also promotes its project to create jobs and increase income. It is introducing new foods which those who want to have extra jobs or increase their income can produce to make a living. The company opens classes of snacks like fancy Luk Chub (crushed bean dipped in jelly), cupcake decorations, steamed tapioca balls with dory fish filling, fancy mushroom sushi, bread and custard, and multicolor salad sauce by teachers from the Suan Dusit Rajabhat University. A course can be concluded in a few hours with certificates for trainees.

“The festival is the important and grand annual event that the company organizes with the determination to accelerate the development of hotel, restaurant and catering businesses which are growing every year. The event allows Makro’s business partners to meet, share their knowledge and introduce their products directly to customers. This benefits the customers and the operators who look for new ideas and business opportunities,” Mrs Suchada says.

She adds that the company extends this year’s festival to four days to let operators and interested people visit all corners of the festival and fully gain knowledge. She expects about 70,000 visitors to the event.

Interesting activities in the festival include the “HoReCa Thailand Challenge 2010” cooking contest to vie for trophies from HRH Princess Soamsawali. The contest consists of particular categories for hotel, restaurant and catering operators. There are also demonstrations of commercial food production covering fish maw soup, noodles and chicken biryani, especially the exhibition of gourmet foods from Makro and royal projects including fresh vegetables, fruits, wines, spices and seasonings, and the must-not-miss and inspirational cooking shows by world-class chefs from well-known restaurants and hotels throughout the four-day event.

There are also counseling sessions and seminars on food and catering businesses on such topics as value-added Thai sweets, packaging designs by S&P, halal foods, Thai food histories, and five-star hotel uniforms by such gurus as Paothong Thongjua, Phanudet “Duke” Watanasuchart and Withoon Sila-on. At their booths, the Thai Restaurant Association introduces cereal coconut rice pancakes and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation promotes its drive-don’t-drink campaign and alternative drinks. The Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand (SME Bank) also offers interesting advice on finance and investment to restaurant and hotel operators.

Cooking demonstrations in the event feature food gurus like Pol Tanthasathian from Spring & Summer Restaurant, Kiat Kitcharoen and his family from Klom Kik Restaurant, and Skaojai “Om” Poolsawat from Lovestaurant program. Phanudet “Duke” also offers tips on constructive ways to add values. There are also a fashion show of chef uniforms and a kitchenware music performance by Tik Shiro.

The Makro HoReCa 2010 is set at Halls 2 and 3 of the IMPACT Exhibition Center in Muang Thong Thani on March 18-21, 2010. The event welcomes s hotel, restaurant and catering operators on March 18 and 19 and the general public on March 20 and 21. Opening hours are from 10am to 7pm.
