Ministry of ICT, in partnership with True Group, announces ‘ICT Free WiFi by TRUE’ with up to 15 hours usage per month

Improving the quality of life for Thai people and enhancing Thailand’s competitiveness in the world arena

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) represented by its Minister, Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Chaiyan Peungkiatpairote, in collaboration with True Group led by Mr. Suphachai Chearavanont, President & CEO of True Corporation Plc and Mr. Adhiruth Thothaveesansuk, Managing Director, Mobile Business of True Corporation Plc, announced a collaborative effort to launch the ‘ICT Free WiFi by TRUE’ service, giving Thai people across the country an opportunity to enjoy Internet access at over 50,000 hotspots connecting to the 2 Mbps WiFi by TrueMove H nationwide network. This innovative service is available to all Thais at no cost. They can connect to wireless Internet at any location with the sign ICT Free WiFi by TrueMove H free for 30 minutes daily, accumulating to a maximum of 15 hours a month by registering for usernames and passwords then selecting the ICT Free WiFi by TRUE network for immediate use. The account is renewable every three months.

According to Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap, ICT Minister, “The ICT Free WiFi program was initiated as part of the SMART THAILAND policy, demonstrating the government’s intention to deliver an improved quality of life to Thai people by optimizing information and communication technology for the benefit of the public. Our aim is to enable all Thai people to have equal access to the Internet at no cost. Today, the ICT Free WiFi initiative is now ready and more efficient, thanks to the collaborative effort of True Group, the leading WiFi provider with an unrivalled coverage area and ongoing development in networking technology. The launch of ICT Free WiFi by TRUE will be of great benefit to Thai people as this will enhance the potential of Thailand’s human resources while promoting education and boosting self-learning among Thai students anywhere, even outside the classroom. This initiative is also environmental-friendly since it will help reduce commuting and energy usage. Moreover, it will enhance Thailand’s tourism and tourist destinations and elevate the ranking of Thailand’s ICT readiness and potential in the region and the world, in preparation for Thailand when it enters the AEC in 2015. Moreover, TrueMove H has set up the SSID labeled ICT Free WiFi by TRUE to provide convenient and immediate access to the service. Interested people can register for usernames and passwords and select the ICT WiFi by TRUE network to use the service for 30 minutes a day, with a total of 15 hours a month.
