Thaicom Public Company Limited (THCOM), a leading Asian satellite operator, announced its operating results for the second quarter of 2016 today. The company reported a consolidated net profit of 591 million baht, showing a year-over-year increase of 19 million baht, or 3.3%, from 572 million baht in Q2/2015. Since the previous quarter, consolidated net profit saw a decrease of 109 million baht, or 15.6%, from 700 million baht in Q1/2016, mainly due to a drop in revenue from conventional satellite services.

Paiboon Panuwattanawong, CEO of Thaicom, said "The decrease in operating results seen over the past quarter, particularly from broadcast services, follows Thailand's slowing economic growth. However, Thaicom has planned for such circumstances by turning to overseas markets and customers in the AEC and South Asia regions, which are both key markets for Thaicom. Meanwhile Thaicom is developing new and innovative value-added services to expand business opportunities around the ability of satellite to cover users anywhere."

Thaicom continues to strive for complete and sufficient network coverage while seeking new customers, expanding into international markets, and developing products and service innovations to meet consumer and business sector needs. In a recent success, the THAICOM 8 satellite was launched into orbit and is ready to provide added capacity to support the transition to HD and UHD broadcasting as they become increasingly popular. Thaicom is also leveraging satellite capabilities to drive mobility. Satellite signal now provides connectivity aboard the Thai battleship HTMS Chakri Naruebet, while 3G/4G mobile backhaul over satellite provides mobile users with coverage anywhere and at any time under both normal and crisis conditions.

Thaicom's Internet and media services subsidiary, CS LoxInfo Public Company Limited (CSL), saw declining revenue from its YellowPages media and advertising, voice info, and mobile content services this past quarter, while the Internet Data Center (IDC) and ADSL for Condominium services continued to grow. The ADSL for Condominium service had 8,372 subscribers at the end of Q2/2016, up 333.8% from Q2/2015.

In Lao PDR, Lao Telecommunications Company Limited (LTC) saw continued growth in revenue, particularly from mobile data and Internet SIM services as well as equipment sales. At the end of Q2/2016, LTC had a total of 2,045,167 phone subscribers, up from 1,837,065 subscribers at the end of Q2/2015. LTC remains the top mobile network operator in Lao PDR with a market share of 53.7%, up from 49.5% at the end of Q2/2015.
