EPL 2006/07 Season Begins on ESPN & STAR Sports

Entertainment Press Releases Friday August 18, 2006 14:51

The long-awaited English Premier League (EPL) is back after a     2-month hiatus.   With up to 10 matches being screened every week, viewers in South East Asia are ensured a football line-up that’s even more extensive than the programming available to football fans in England itself, the home of EPL!   The FA Community Shield on ESPN last Sunday kick-started more than 1000 hours of total football programming available on ESPN and STAR Sports this season.

Commenting on ESPN STAR Sports’ stronghold on football programming in Southeast Asia, Mr Jamie Davis, Managing Director, ESPN STAR Sports, said, “Our organization has played a strong role in building the popularity of football in Asia over the years.   Research has showed that ESPN and STAR Sports reached 84 percent of all cable viewers in Singapore over the last (EPL & FA Cup) season.   Including the FA Cup, EPL had a reach of 204 million viewers across Asia in the last season alone.   This year, we aim to deliver more to the viewers, not just the live games, but also insightful and entertaining content surrounding football across the two channels, ESPN and STAR Sports.”

“This year, viewers can expect more from ESPN and STAR Sports with an increase of 50 hours of original programming from 315 hours to 365 hours.   Football fans will be able to catch their weekly dose of football action, ‘Live’ from England exclusively on both ESPN and STAR Sports.   Football fans can also tune into the various previews, pre-shows and post-show review for expert views and analysis.” added Mr Davis.

Some of the former verterans from the English Premier League will share their first-hand experience of playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world.   Brian Deane, Ex Sheffield United, Leeds United & Middleborough player will be the first pundit to appear on ESPN in the new season from August 18th to 28th.   Plans are also in place to provide on-site coverage for some big games starting with the Manchester United vs Arsenal fixture on September 17th.

Those looking for a more light-hearted approach to football will welcome existing and new programs hosted by well-known faces, Jamie Yeo, Jein and Andy Penders on STAR Sports.   These popular hosts are all set to bring an entertaining element to the coverage of football.
