Bangkok--18 Feb--eBay

eBay today announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a partnership with the Department of Industrial Promotion (DIP) to help Thai Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) take full advantage of the global business opportunities that e-commerce brings. Through a program designed by eBay, Thai SMEs will be able to discover effective ways to sell their products to over 86 million eBay users worldwide.

The partnership was announced earlier today at a seminar called "Empowering SMEs through E-Commerce on eBay,” aimed at equipping all types of Thai businesses with the knowledge and skills needed to market their products internationally and gain a competitive advantage during challenging economic times.

“The Department of Industrial Promotion welcomes the opportunity to enter into this partnership with eBay, a global leader in e-commerce. It reflects our mission of helping SMEs to expand their businesses by leveraging the Internet to reach millions of new customers,” said Pramode Vidtayasuk, Director General, Department of Industrial Promotion. “Thailand is well-known for producing some of the most unique and sought-after products in the world. Through a leading

e-commerce platform such as eBay, Thai businesses can easily and safely make their goods available to potentially millions of buyers worldwide.”

“eBay, the world’s largest online marketplace, can help fuel e-commerce growth in Thailand by offering SMEs access to new markets, increasing their customer base, and potentially improving sales,” said Oliver Hua, Chief Operating Officer, eBay Greater China And Southeast Asia. “With our long-term, strategic partnership, eBay and the DIP will complement each other’s respective strengths through the sharing of knowledge, manpower, information and other resources for the development of e-commerce for SMEs in Thailand.”

Under their public-private partnership, eBay and the DIP will conduct joint marketing, promotional and educational activities including seminars, workshops as well as in-depth consultation sessions at training facilities provided by the DIP in the coming year. The DIP will also reach out to Thai SMEs and invite them to participate in the program as a first step towards growing their businesses through e-commerce.

To encourage SMEs to start selling successfully overseas on eBay, there will also be a waiver of insertion fees for the first 100 eBay listings and selected features, and up to 25 percent discount on fees for the first 100 payments received via eBay’s affiliate company, PayPal.
