Online shoppers in Thailand can enjoy terrific savings when making purchases with their Visa Debit card on Thailand’s top online shopping sites from now until August 2013. In addition to these special Thailand-based offers, Visa Debit cardholders in Thailand can also use make online purchases through any local or international eCommerce website that accepts Visa cards.

Now through August 2013, cardholders with Visa Debit cards from KASIKORNBANK, Bangkok Bank and Krung Thai[1] Bank are eligible for a 10% discount when they spend 1,000 THB or more at a variety of hotel chains and merchants[2]. Participating brands include Accor Group, Centara Hotels & Resorts, Agoda[3],, Rakuten, Central, Zalora, Groupon, Ensogo, and iDealinthai by Counterservice[4].

That’s great news if you are planning a family holiday, looking to get your partner something special for Valentine’s Day, or simply looking to treat yourself with a new gadget. With a huge range of goods available at Thailand’s leading e-commerce sites consumers will have the choice of the high street right at their fingertips.

Somboon Krobteeranon, Visa Country Manager, Thailand and Myanmar, said: “In today’s highly connected world an increasing number of Thai consumers are choosing to shop online. While debit cards are widespread in Thailand, many people don’t realize that they can use their Visa debit card to shop online or for everyday spending, and not just as an ATM card. Visa Debit cards are a viable alternative to using cash as they offer consumers greater convenience, and consumers also benefit from the security in knowing their online payment has been Verified by Visa. Our e-commerce campaign in 2013 is aimed at educating consumers that Visa Debit is a smarter way to pay, extending promotions to consumers who use their Visa Debit cards to buy their favorite items online.”

Thailand’s Department of Business Development predicts a 20-30% increase in e-commerce website registrations this year, while the Visa e-Commerce Consumer Monitor Research 2012[5], a recent study conducted by Visa in collaboration with TNS across the region, found that 9 out of 10 people surveyed made an online purchase in the past year. Online shopping is expected to continue growing, with 92% of respondents from eight countries across Asia Pacific, Central Europe and Africa indicating that they are likely to make purchases via the internet the next year.
