Thaicom Posts Consolidated Net Profit of Baht 498 million for Q2/2014,162% Growth YoY Fully Drives the Growth of the Broadcast and Broadband Industry

Thaicom Public Company Limited (“THCOM”), Thailand’s satellite leader, today announced its operating results for the second quarter of 2014, posting a consolidated revenue from sale of goods and rendering of services for Q2/2014 totaled Baht 2,449 million, up by 37% YoY, with a consolidated Net Profit of Baht 498 million, an increase of 162% over the previous year.

Suphajee Suthumpun, Chairman of the Executive Committee and CEO, Thaicom PLC stated that, "The operating results in the second quarter of 2014 has grown significantly. The main factor is the growth of broadcast and broadband industries, both in Thailand and abroad. Thaicom has also successfully proceeded its strategies to support the growth of broadcasting industry by providing more satellite capacity utilizing THAICOM 6 satellite that has commenced full services since early 2014. In addition, Thaicom has also continued providing End-to-End Solutions that has added more value to its fleet and services to meet customer’s requirements and beyond.”

At present, the viewers who have already used the set-top-boxes all over the country can enjoy the high quality picture on the HD channels and many of SD channels broadcasting via both DTT and satellite TV channels. Thaicom satellite platform, therefore, is able to broadcast a variety of TV channel, supporting multiple broadcasting resolutions and enable the majority of Thai households with instant accessibility to the wide range of broadcasting nationwide.

“Thaicom has a mission to enhance the core network that drives Thailand’s broadcasting industry. We have focused on strengthening the satellite TV network in three areas including Content--a variety of good content with high quality picture, Coverage--the coverage of all areas and the viewer expansion as well as Capacity--the allocation of capacity supply for the customers and to support future growth of Thailand’s broadcasting industry to finally ensure the benefits to the viewers," Suphajee added.

In the third quarter of 2014, THAICOM 7 satellite will be launched into the orbit to enhance the capacity of THAICOM 5 and 6 while providing data and media services for Asia’s and Australasia’s telecommunications and entertainment industry, based on over 50% of pre-launch sales. Additionally, the Company expects to launch THAICOM 8 within the first half of 2016 at 78.5 Degrees East orbital slot, to strengthen Thaicom's Hot Bird position and to provide adequate capacity to serve the HD and UHD trend.

For Thaicom Broadband, the Company has also focused on the development of integrated technological innovations plus the delivery of End-to-End solutions and Value-Added Services to its customers. For the first half of 2014, The Company had entrusted Thaicom Broadband satellite to be of service among several countries such as Australia, India, Indonesia and Malaysia. Recently, Thaicom has announced the launch of low-cost maritime broadband service for Ocean Trans Co., Ltd.; the Shipping Company in Japan, to provide its crew with reliable and cost-effective access to email and the internet, thus boosting crew morale and productivity while operating at sea. In the meantime, Thaicom has also empowered Nok Air to provide the first commercial In-Flight Connectivity Services which allow Ku-band broadband communication on commercial flights over Asia, expected in the third quarter of 2014.

In other areas of the Company’s operations, its Media business subsidiary, DTV Service Co., Ltd. (DTV) has been focusing on the partnership with expanding channels all across the platforms and positioning itself to be a neutral platform for those new channels which undergo a customer-base development. Another Thaicom's subsidiary, CS Loxinfo PLC (CSL) has had a continued growth in Internet Data Center and ICT & Cloud Services while Lao Telecommunications Co., Ltd. (LTC), the Company’s telephone operations in the Lao PDR has also shown steadily good performance. LTC has continued to focus on localized activities and promotions in potential and competitive areas to acquire new subscribers additional to its existing subscribers with an optimization in the service quality. Currently, LTC is still ranking No.1 in Lao PDR’s mobile phone in the market share. Moreover, the number of wireless broadband internet subscribers especially HSPA has continued to increase.
