SEC lifts up qualifications of valuers for transactions in capital market

The SEC imposed additional requirements onnew principle valuers for transactions in capital market that they must pass examination and be interviewed by the SEC. The new requirements aim to help escalate both quality and quantity of the valuers in support of increasing capital market product variety.

SEC Secretary-General Vorapol Socatiyanurak said that the SEC prescribed additional qualifications of principle valuers for transactions in capital market.

The applicant intending to seek the SEC’s approval must pass the examination of Scholastic Management Aptitude Requirement Test (SMART) Center at Thammasat University, providing that the result must be within two years from the date of passing the examination. Apart from passing the examination, the application must also be interviewed by the SEC. The revision of qualifications aims to uplift quality and quantity of the valuers to serve fund raising through increasingly capital market product variety while helping increase investor confidence and strengthen the capital market stability.

Valuers passing the examinations conducted by relevant associations since December 16, 2010 can submit the results to the SEC together with the application of approval as the principle valuers by December 31, 2014. For principle valuers already approved by the SEC and intend to apply for renewal, the valuation service providers which are their employers must submit the applications at least 60 days prior to the approval expiry date.
