Malaysia--8 Dec--Asian Banker
ANZ today announced Tracy Ong has been appointed Chief Representative, ANZ Malaysia, reporting to CEO for Singapore and Malaysia Vishnu Shahaney.

Ms Ong joins ANZ from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Malaysia, where from 2013 she was Managing Director, Head of Corporate Banking. Prior to this she was Managing Director and Country Head, Bank of America Malaysia Berhad.

Commenting on the appointment, CEO for Singapore and Malaysia Vishnu Shahaney said: “Tracy’s extensive experience in corporate banking and debt capital markets in Malaysia, as well as her deep relationships in the industry will be an asset for our customers looking to grow their businesses throughout the region.”

Mr Shahaney added: “Malaysia is a key market for ANZ. The Representative Office in Kuala Lumpur is integral to supporting and growing the Group's capabilities outside Malaysia. I’m confident that Tracy’s leadership will greatly enhance the growth of business opportunities for the ANZ network and strengthen the overall relationship of our customers in Malaysia.”

Ms Ong has close to 30 years of experience in corporate banking and debt capital markets. She was Executive Director and Deputy CEO at Danajamin Nasional Berhad, Malaysia and has also held several senior positions with the Maybank Group, where she last served as Head of Corporate Banking at Malayan Banking Berhad.

Ms Ong takes over from Fauziah Hisham, who retired in July this year after six years as the Group representative in Malaysia. Madeline Leong, who has been Acting Representative from July, will focus on her role as Director of International Banking for the Malaysian office.

ANZ was the first foreign bank to seek and obtain representative status in Malaysia in 1971 as a unit of Grindlays Bank plc. As a Representative Office, ANZ Kuala Lumpur actively supports and markets the Group's capabilities outside Malaysia, and provides local support and advice to customers of other ANZ network points in the country, connecting them across 33 markets globally.

ANZ also serves its Malaysia customers through the ANZ-AmBank partnership, which provides customers with a full range of banking products and services to meet working capital, trade, debt and equity capital markets requirements in the country.
