Origin Energy Ltd. Ratings Affirmed At #BBB-# Despite Hybrid Outlook Remains Positive Stcoks—15 Feb 18

SYDNEY--15 Feb--S&P Global Ratings

SYDNEY (S&P Global Ratings) Feb. 15, 2018--S&P Global Ratings said today that it had affirmed its 'BBB-' long-term and 'A-3' short-term corporate credit ratings on Origin Energy Ltd. (Origin). At the same time, we affirmed the 'BBB-' rating on the senior unsecured debt and 'BB' rating on the subordinated debt issued by Origin Energy Finance Ltd. The outlook on the long-term rating remains positive.

We have affirmed the ratings on Origin because we consider the company's proposed buyback of its EUR500 million hybrid subordinated notes due June 2071 does not affect its current credit quality. Origin intends to redeem the hybrid at its first call date in June 2018. However, we have revised our equity content assessment for all of Origin's outstanding EUR1.5 billion hybrids to minimal from intermediate, and will treat the hybrids as debt for our ratio calculations.

The revision in the equity content reflects our view of management's intent. We believe the company has limited incentive to retain the high cost instrument in its capital structure. Even so, we expect the ratio of debt to EBITDA to be around 3.5x for the year ending June 30, 2018, before improving in the outer years. This ratio level supports the current positive outlook.

We consider Origin's liquidity profile will
