SCB and MU collaborate on a Digital Convergence University concept, creating a digital ecosystem to prep for status as leading international university

Digital banking leader Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) recently inked a memorandum of understanding calling for cooperation on a "Smart University" to develop and drive a cashless society. The MOU, signed by SCB and Mahidol University (MU), aims for the two organizations to collaborate on developing a digital ecosystem connecting an administration platform, education and learning, infrastructure, and digital lifestyle at the university. SCB will support university personnel and students' readiness for a cashless society with innovative digital financial services that are modern, secure, and convenient to prep for MU becoming a leading international model of a digital convergence university.

Speaking about the collaboration, Mahidol University Acting President Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D., said, "Digital technology is now playing a crucial role in change across all sectors. Mahidol University, as a leading university in Thailand, is well aware of this issue. Digital technology is crucial for the university's mission in every aspect, be it research, education, academic services, administration, as well as everyone's daily life. We continue developing the university's potential to prep for becoming a leading international university. Regarding this "Smart University" collaboration with SCB, we will jointly drive changes in technology, ecosystems, and other key areas at Mahidol University to encourage lecturers, personnel, and students in particular to be technologically knowledgeable and advanced at an international level, so as to promote their competitiveness at home and abroad. We hope our students can learn and fully benefit from innovations and serve the country as quality undergraduates."

SCB Senior Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate Banking Wasin Saiyawan said, "As for the "Smart University" collaboration between SCB and Mahidol University , we will jointly develop a digital ecosystem by connecting the university's platforms for administration, education and learning, infrastructure, and digital lifestyles under a digital convergence concept. The digital ecosystem development will include, for example, 1) A network connecting the university's four campuses (Nakhon Pathom - Salaya, Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Sawan, and Amnat Charoen) with infrastructure and media for online learning and an interactive system for lecturers and students; 2) MU application for a new learning society and student lifestyles; 3) An Intelligence Library with digital technology to facilitate library services; 4) Innovations for more effective and convenient life at the university, including smart ID cards for university personnel and students, infrastructure and systems to support a cashless society, a smart parking system, smart lockers, and one-stop service kiosks for issuing academic documents, etc. The collaborative effort will create a new learning dimension to the 4.0 digital era, supporting the university's proactive policy to follow its strategic plan and in line with the government's Thailand 4.0 policy. SCB is confident that this collaboration will help drive Mahidol University's quality development of learning, academic services, and research towards excellence as a leading international university, as well as a source for learning for both internal and external organizations. Importantly, this is an example of collaboration between the public and private sectors to continuously drive leapfrogging and sustainable development."
