SET and alliances launch Care the Bear project to reduce global warming

SET, together with 22 alliances, has jointly launched "Care the Bear: Change the Climate Change by Eco Event" project to encourage Thai listed firms to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions in line with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - Goal 13: Climate action. The project is expected to reduce 2,000 tons of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e) per year, equal to afforesting 3,200,000 square meters.

SET Senior Executive Vice President Krisada Sektrakul said, "According to the information from the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization as of 2013, Thailand emitted 350 million tons of CO2e per year, 21st rank in the world. With responsibility and concerns, SET always focuses on the operational process considering environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects. Care the Bear project has been initiated to help Thai listed companies reduce the global warming effects to make better change in a tangible manner. In the first step, SET has organized training among 20 partners and listed firms, aiming to reduce global warming effects, decrease operating expenses and enhance overall efficiency. This project is in accordance with the Thai government that has participated in the Paris Agreement since 2016, with target to reduce the country's greenhouse gas emissions by 20-25 percent by 2030."

Significantly, SET has created the "Care the Bear: Eco Event Kit", the instruction of how to organize events and then calculate the reduction of the greenhouse gas emission.The kit includes 6 parts:
1. Use public transportation or car pool.
2. Reduce the use of paper and plastic for documents and packaging.
3. Stop using foam as decorative items or food packaging.
4. Reduce the use of electrical appliances or use energy-saving device instead.
5. Design by using recycled decorative items.
6. Reduce food & beverage wastes from each event.
