Thai bourse affirms earthquake did not affect trading

General Press Releases Thursday May 17, 2007 17:00

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) announced that securities trading on SET, Market for Alternative Investment (mai), Bond Electronic Exchange (BEX), Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX), as well as related clearing and settlement systems, were not affected by the earthquake on the border of Laos and Myanmar on May 16, 2007.

The quake had no effect on overall trading or index calculation. Nevertheless, the magnitude of the earthquake made some SET member companies located on high-rise buildings in Bangkok temporarily unable to provide services during that period.

On May 16, 2007, the SET Index closed at 721.66 (increasing 8.39 from the previous day). Total trading value was THB 16,200.66 million (about USD 462.88 million) increasing THB 6,545.99 million from the previous day.

The mai Index closed at 209.93 (down 1.60) with total value of THB 248.07 million (down THB 54.29 million).
