Bangkok--22 Jun--Unithai Group
Unithai Shipyard and Engineering Limited, Thailand’s premier shipyard, has received an appreciation award from PPL Shipyard Pte Ltd of Singapore for its excellence in ensuring the safety of all employees.

The certificate awarded recognises the 6,000,000 accident-free man-hours recorded with no lost time by Unithai, while it was fulfilling contracts awarded by PPL for the construction of rig structures between October 2007 and April 2009.

Unithai Shipyard’s well-earned reputation for reliability among major rig owners, has secured more than 20 contracts for 11 rig structures from PPL Shipyard since 2005.

To meet the growing demand for shiprepair and offshore construction, it is essential to have employees who are well trained in steelwork. Unithai Shipyard has established a Welder Training Centre to develop its manpower capability, ensuring that the yard provides top-quality work to guarantee its customers’ satisfaction.

Unithai Shipyard has been praised by customers not only for its professional capabilities, but also its compliance with international codes and standards of occupational health and safety. It is committed to making safety a key part of its workplace culture.

The yard was recently awarded OHSAS18001:2007 and TIS18001:1999 certification, which represents an obligation to fulfil statutory and official health and safety requirements. This care and commitment reduces downtime and disruptions in production and burnishes the firm’s reputation among clients, suppliers, authorities and investors as a safe and reliable business.
