Continental “Save the Earth” volunteer team of Continental Automotive (Thailand) Co., Ltd, plant mangrove trees at Ban Pla Thanakarn Poo, Noen Kho District, Klaeng, Rayong Province close to its plant in Amata City Industrial Park.

“Generated to coincide with the company's corporate policy for CSR in being considerate to the environment by protecting the world’s precious resources and ensuring their sustainable use, it was decided that mangrove planting was the most appropriate way to help enhance Thailand’s environment due to the importance of mangroves to the local eco-system. The sites close proximity to our Amata City Powertrain Plant means that we are able to actively improve the local environment for the benefit of our whole community” said Thomas Chambers, Managing Director, Continental Automotive (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

Employees took turns digging and planting about 1400 small trees in the salt water marsh adjoining the Gulf of Thailand. This exciting activity which some did for the first time in their life took about an hour to complete.

Yaowana Chitjong, one of Continental's employee said, “Everybody was really excited to join this event since we can help our homeland in preventing floods and it was wonderful to be able to come together as a team to strengthen our relationships with each other.”

"Overall, everybody flushed with joy and fun day out" said Rainer Doerrheide, General Manager and Head of Continental's plant at Amata City. He added, “I have been there once more on the next day to see how the trees are doing. And, well they seemed to be doing very fine and looking happy, even though, some were basking in the salty water. I hope they will grow very fast and protect the coast against erosion.”

The aims of this CSR project are to increase awareness among the employees so that they cherish the value of protecting the environment and mangroves trees which help to protect Thailand’s eco-system; providing a buffer between land and sea, preventing coastal erosion and providing a rich breeding ground for countless species of flora and fauna. The activity also aims to build and strengthen the relationship among employees and between Continental and the local community
