Unithai Shipyard and Engineering, operates Thailand’s largest shipyard has received a National Safety Award from the Ministry of Labour for outstanding efforts in safety, health and environmental care in the workplace. The award will be presented during “Safety Week in the Eastern Industries Zone” in July.

Unithai is the first premier shipyard to earn this award.

The criteria are excellent performance in safety, health and environmental care and good compliance with Welfare and Labour Department regulations, including the establishment of special projects and campaigns to raise employee awareness.

Unithai Shipyard’s efforts in these areas are being constantly assessed with an eye to continued improvement in safety on the job. In addition, the enterprise places high priority on promoting activities that demonstrate its Corporate Social Responsibility.

Its Safety, Health and Environmental Protection Policy exceeded industry criteria for high performance standards, earning this National Award from the Labour Ministry.

“This achievement has proved that Unithai Shipyard has a strong safety, health and environmental culture,” says the firm’s Managing Director, Teerapon Udomkanjananan. “All employees and subcontractors have fully committed to this policy, related rules and regulations, in contributing toward the motto ‘Safety is everyone’s responsibility’, ensuring that we all work safely, incident- and injury-free, and see that everyone returns home safely every day.”

This marks another significant milestone for Unithai Shipyard, which currently has amassed 18 Million Man Hours (MMH) without a Day Away from Work Case (DAWC), counting from October 24, 2008, to June 9, 2011.
