Bangkok--28 Sep--BOI

BOI Fair 2011 “Going Green for the Future”, Thailand’s giant international fair, will be held between 10 and 25 November 2011 on 240,000 square metres of space at the Impact Exhibition Center, Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi Province, which adjoins Bangkok. This major event is part of the nationwide celebrations of his Majesty the King's 84th birthday. It will include not only exhibits of products and services but also major conferences and seminars.

The theme of the fair is “Going Green for the Future” in line with the Board of Investment’s new policy shift towards promoting investment for sustainable development. Therefore, this event will be an exhibit of both advanced technology and innovation that point the way to the future, and of eco-friendly production methodology that reflects the determination and readiness of Thailand to move towards green technologies and green investments.

One aspect of the BOI Fair 2011 that will play a great role in enhancing confidence in Thailand and Thai industry among global investors will be the CEO Forum, a conference for business leaders from all over the world, to be held on 10 November 2011, the opening day of the BOI Fair. The BOI has organised this event in cooperation with the Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau, which plays an important part in promoting and supporting international meetings and conferences in Thailand.

This forum of key international business leaders will be one of the most significant activities at the BOI Fair 2011. In addition to the opportunity it presents the government to enhance Thailand’s image as an investment destination, it will provide a chance to build confidence in the country and its industry among both Thai and foreign investors and encourage investment in Thai-based projects, especially those that lead to sustainable development.

Participants in the CEO Forum will include not only high-level executives from major international companies that have already made significant investments in Thailand, but also senior managers from large Thai companies and major banks. The major theme of this conference evolves around the issue of sustainability.

Among the speakers at the forum will be leaders of international organisations and administrators of foreign and Thai companies, including Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, the Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), high-level managers from the Minebea Group from Japan and Dow Chemical from the United States, and Mr. Kan Trakulhoon, President and CEO of the Siam Cement Group.

Dr. Supachai will speak on the topic, “Global Sustainable FDI and Opportunities for Thailand (The global foreign direct investment landscape has changed considerably in the past 10 years. What are the trends and challenges in the future for emerging economies. How can Thailand respond to these changes and achieve sustainability?)”.

Dr. Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary General of ASEAN, will speak on the topic “ASEAN Economic Community: What Does It Mean to Thailand? (ASEAN will be come the ASEAN Economic Community [AEC] in 2015. What will be the impact of this closer integration on investors and the Thai economy?)”.

These presentations will be followed by a CEO Panel Discussion on the topic, “Green Strategies for Successful and Sustainable Industries: Opportunities and Challenges”. Taking part will be Mr. Heinz Haller, Executive Vice President, Dow Chemical Co., USA; Mr. Kan Trakulhoon, President and CEO, Siam Cement Group, Thailand; and Mr.Yoshihisa Kainuma, Representative Director, President and CEO, Minebea Co., Japan. The session is designed for an exchange of views and experiences from the private sector on achieving competitiveness through sustainability and will address the questions: Can green strategy enhance profitability? What are the best practices in corporate sustainability, and how can CEOs best take this forward?

In addition, the BOI will organise a meeting with its Honorary Investment Advisors (HIA), the first to be held on 9 November 2011, the provide an opportunity for Thai government leaders to confer with honorary investment consultants on Thailand’s five-year investment promotion strategies. The points of view provided by these international administrators will be useful in formulating BOI strategies to promote Thailand’s competitiveness as an investment destination.
