“DHL’s performance can be measured in many ways, but it is the part that is perhaps most difficult to measure that contributes the most to our success: employee engagement. This is the reason we have paid so much attention to supplementing our investments in our global network with investments in staff development and motivation,” Said Ken Allen, CEO of DHL Express.
The Aon Hewitt 2013 Trends in Global Employee Engagement Report found that a 1% increase in engagement indicates a 0.6% increase in sales. DHL has made investments in various initiatives to drive engagement, such as Staff Appreciation Weeks, spectacular Employee of the Year events and a company-wide development scheme. Over 100 000 employees worldwide have participated in the Certified International Specialists program.
This approach has helped us the logistics leader win 58 HR-related awards in over 38 countries in 2013, including 24 in Asia Pacific, 19 in Europe, 6 in Americas, 6 in Middle East & North Africa, 2 in Sub-Saharan Africa and 11 already in 2014.
The latest landmark achievement was the Top Employers Europe 2014 certification from the Top Employers Institute, based on awards in Belgium, Germany, Italy Poland and the UK. This honor recognizes DHL’s efforts to advance employee conditions.
“’Motivated people’ is a founding pillar of our strategy and our aim is to be Employer of Choice. We are therefore delighted to see our efforts pay off with recognition from the Top Employer institute and many other well-respected organizations around the world.”
