Setsubun Festival at Yamazato

Wednesday 14 January 2015 11:26
Yamazato, the signature restaurant at The Okura Prestige Bangkok, has established a fine reputation for celebrating many traditional Japanese festivals throughout the year.

This trend continues on 30 January 2015 when the restaurant marks the annual Setsubun Festival with Ehomaki set lunch and Kaiseki set dinner menus. Setsubun, meaning literally the ‘day before Spring’, is an ancient festival in Japan. The rituals include bean throwing to keep away evil spirits and the eating of an Ehomaki roll whilst facing towards the ‘lucky direction’ for that year. In 2015, the direction is to the south west.

The set lunch features a starter comprising edamame sesame tofu, yuzu miso, and Okura Chinese wolfberry; hot clear soup with shrimp dumpling, wheat gluten, shimeji mushroom and yuzu; a Sashimi course of tuna, sea bass and big fin reef squid; a grilled dish of yellow tail with butterbur miso; simmered koya tofu and sardine with ginger, eggplant and carrot; tempura shrimp with pond smelt and vegetables; rice dish; Ehomaki roll with miso soup and, for dessert, vanilla cake, black beans, egg yolk sauce, rice-flour dumplings with strawberry. Priced at Baht 850++.

The Setsubun Kaiseki set dinner comprises ear of rice; simmered sardine with carrots, broad beans, bamboo shoot, udo, shrimp with kinome miso, konbu kelp with herring roe, rape blossom, egg yolk sauce and lily bulb; crab starchy soup, wheat gluten with mugwort, honewort and yuzu; Sashimi of tuna, yellowtail, surf clam and sweet shrimp; Grilled Spanish mackerel with butterbur miso and grilled scallop; simmered abalone with radish, soy beans, wheat gluten and carrot; rice; Ehomaki roll, miso soup with nori and a dessert course of vanilla cake, black beans, matcha sauce plus assorted fruit. Priced at Baht 3,000++. The special Yamazato Ehomaki roll is priced at Baht 450++.

Ehomaki set lunch and Kaiseki set dinner menus are available from 30 January – 3 February 2015 for lunch from 11:30 am – 2:30 pm and dinner from 6:00 pm – 10:30 pm.
