In keeping with the school’s holistic approach to development and strong sense of community, students of Bangkok International Preparatory and Secondary School (Bangkok Prep) have been wholeheartedly devoting their time and care to the Saeng Sawang Foundation and Sanuk Day Care Centre.

Since the beginning of their academic year, Bangkok Prep’s Year 12 and 13 students have been visiting the Saeng Sawang Foundation two days a week to provide assistance and care to its children. The foundation assists children suffering from severe learning impairment and physical disabilities, providing preschool education and vocational training for older attendants. On top of organising musical activities, storytelling and rehabilitation sessions, the students were also able to raise Baht 25,000 for the foundation with a campaign held at Bangkok Prep.

“I have been really impressed with how the students have responded to the difficult challenges they have faced,” said Mr Josh Morris, Community Service Coordinator.

Not to be out done, Bangkok Prep’s Sixth Form students raised their own funds to aid Sanuk Day Care Centre in Jomtien, Pattaya and took up the challenge of decorating its Silom facility. Giving up an entire Saturday to bolster their Tuesday Community Service time, the students brought the centre to life with colourful murals in line with centre founder Tracy Cosgrove’s desire to elevate the lives of migrant worker children away from work site dangers and trafficking. The students capped off their contribution by holding an assembly on the issue of construction site conditions.

Both groups of students garnered great appreciation for their assistance, showing not only commitment but a genuine passion and a sincere understanding for their social responsibilities. Staff at the two facilities lauded the students for going beyond expectation in their work.

Pavarit Krisluenon (Patrick), Year 12 student at Bangkok Prep said: “Saeng Sawang foundation is a school for children who are mentally challenged. I have been spending my first term this year visiting and supporting them. This experience has taught me the importance of Saeng Sawang foundation which really brightened up the children’s world and I believe that we should all be helping them.”

“Recently, our school organised a trip for us to go to the Sanuk Day Centre. I volunteered to be one of the members to help out with the wall painting for the Sanuk Day Centre. The center is a place that provides education for children in rural areas. I wish I will have more chances to visit the Sanuk Day Centre,” said Parima Sunthonchai (Prim), Year 12 student.
