Monday 20 July 2015 15:06
Bangkok Betty, the 1940s American munitions depot-themed gastro-pub is bringing indulgent Chicago Deep Dish Pizzas to Thailand after going back to the blueprint with its food menu.

Perfect for sharing between two friends, the eye-poppingly generous pizzas are already causing a viral stir with their cheesy decadence. Topping varieties include classics such as Pepperoni and Gourmet Seafood, and prices start at just THB 450++. Now, for a limited time, diners can enjoy 30% off on pizzas every Sunday and Monday until 11.30pm.

After opening as a casual fine dining restaurant a year ago, Bangkok Betty's management report researching the latest food trends in order to compete in a city full of wonderful restaurants. The long-awaited new menu is pushing the envelope for American comfort food, but still offers some local favorites.

"Using the best ingredients at affordable prices, we have created outstanding dishes that we are sure will be loved by everyone," promises Johan Persimon Davidsson, Fenix Iron Fairies' Group General Manager and the creative force behind Hotel Muse.

With prices starting at THB 280, every one of Bangkok Betty's authentic American burgers is served with its own bucket of Classic Fries, homemade ketchup and pickles. The substantially proportioned Betty's Classic Beef Burger is made with juicy Black Angus beef patty while a vegetarian option arrives bursting with homemade falafel, grilled eggplants, sprouts, cucumber and Tahini yoghurt. Those unable to make up their minds after considering the Reuben and Chicken Burger options might opt for The Trio Burger: a sampling 'flight' that includes Mini-Lamb, Crab and Pulled Pork Burgers.

Poutine, the ultimate Canadian comfort food, makes a rare Bangkok appearance with a choice of humble Classic chicken gravy (THB 215++), Pulled Chicken, Blue Crab & Pepperoni or Lamb & Goats Cheese. Meanwhile, mouthwatering bar snacks include Extremely Hot Chicken Wings, Sweet Potato Hand Cut Fries and jumbo Tamarind Prawns.

Most dishes come served on rustic wooden cutting boards, with traditional Asian classics such as the award-winning Pad Thai from Executive Chef Chalong of Surin proving that there really is something for everyone. Perfect for sharing, a selection of indulgent desserts includes homemade Cheesecake Sundaes, Chocolate Fudge Brownies and Italian Ice Cream Sandwiches.

Thursday at Bangkok Betty is Ladies' Night, with every girl that steps through the door receiving three complimentary cocktails. Friday, meanwhile, is always 'Chicks Rock' night, with every girl enjoying an enormous 50% discount on drinks.

Throughout the week, a cocktail list from renowned cocktail innovator Joseph Boroski matches the bar's stylised Allied Forces theme with names like Kickapoo Joy Juice (THB 290++), Final Approach (THB 350++) and the absinthe-based Cyanide for Hitler (THB 350++). Wine lovers can enjoy bottles of vino for just THB 600++.

From the mind of interior designer, Ashley Sutton, Bangkok Betty channels the female empowerment of World War II-era icons such as 'Rosie the Riveter'. The spirit is alive and well with the venue's delightful '40s-groomed hostesses, or 'Betties', who ensure that guests are comfortable and that the atmosphere remains lively. The venue hosts a diverse range of international cabaret shows, mini concerts and food events throughout the year, while weekly entertainment includes covers from Earth Collide & Her Stalkers alongside R&B and Hip Hop DJs.

At the ticking heart of the venue stands a gigantic chrome atomic bomb. From its airplane nose art to its conveyor belt ceiling installation, every minor detail of Bangkok Betty stylishly conjures the interior of a World War II munitions factory. Invoking the grandeur of industrial theatre, Bangkok Betty is accessible via a total of three entrances, including a direct entrance from Sukhumvit Road, beside soi 22, and a link to the adjoining Holiday Inn

Towards the back of the bar, rich leather seating, earth-tone walls and darkened corners offer a more intimate setting. Diners can also choose to casually enjoy their comfort food on high stools at the bar counter or at the outdoor tables that are ideal for people watching. Sukhumvit's trendy EM District is fast-emerging as the new focal point of Bangkok's main artery and anyone driving in the area can easily escape the traffic with complimentary parking inside The Holiday Inn.
