This means that students benefit from the academic rigour and leading-edge research undertaken by the member institutions. It also helps to ensure that the University of London qualifications are of the same high academic standard, wherever they are attained.

In the case of the undergraduate programmes in Economics, Management, Finance and Social Sciences (EMFSS), academic direction is provided by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). While the academic direction of IFP (International Foundation Programme) is provided by University of London International Programmes directly. On successful completion of their studies, students will be awarded a University of London degree or diploma. The certificate will state that students were registered with the University of London and that examinations were conducted by LSE (for EMFSS) or by the University of London (for IFP).
