Bangkok--30 May--BITEC

Ms. Panittha Buri, Managing Director of Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC), recently announced the launch of BHIRAJ Convention Centre - a new brand at BITEC that is dedicated to delivering prime spaces for conventions, meetings, gala presentations, stage shows and other special events.

In a recent announcement, Ms. Buri mentioned that current trends in the market highlighted the need for growth. In 2016, occupancy of exhibitions, conferences and seminars was 54%, with a growth of 5-8 percent expected in 2017. Current public and private sector targets include organizers from overseas such as Asia, Middle East and Europe.

Part of BITEC's major expansion plan, BHIRAJ Convention Centre consists of three new halls offering a combined space of 3,574 square metres. The venue offers spacious, purpose-built halls that can cater for small gatherings of 500 people to large conventions of over 3,600 delegates. The BHIRAJ Halls are ideal for various types of events including live performances, corporate meetings, plenary sessions, grand gala events, weddings and product launches.

Complete with acoustic wall systems for ultimate sound protection, the halls are complemented by state-of-the-art supporting facilities such as Wi-Fi service throughout the venue, a contemporary business centre, VIP room, AV room and organizer's office as well as banquet services.

In addition to the new halls, BHIRAJ Convention Centre also offers 12 contemporary and well-equipped meeting rooms that hold 30 to 170 delegates for intimate gatherings, seminars and breakout sessions. Connecting people, the rooms are divided into three themed zones inspired by the world's ancient trade and travel routes:

• Silk Meeting rooms: Inspired by the Silk Road, an important network that stretched from Japan to the Mediterranean Sea
• Amber Meeting rooms: Paying homage to Amber Road, which supplied the trade of amber between the North Sea, Baltic Sea and Mediterranean Sea
• Nile Meeting rooms: A tribute to the long, north-flowing river that connects several countries in northeastern Africa.
Combined with BITEC's existing convention and meeting rooms, the total venue consists of six grand convention halls and 28 breakout meeting rooms, creating a total meeting space of 9,500 square metres.

Ms. Panittha said, "BHIRAJ Convention Centre will become one of the preferred venues for international organizers because of its convenient location in Bangna district offering easy access to the airport, CBD and major entertainment, shopping and dining destinations within the city". In addition, an elevated walkway leading directly from the centre to the BTS Skytrain at Bang Na Station is under development with completion expected at the end of 2017, adding an additional layer of convenience.

On completion later this year, BHIRAJ Convention Centre is expected to support the growth of Thailand's MICE industry and place BITEC as one of the most competitive venues in Asia.
