The Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) is collaborating with the Harvard Law School's Institute of Global Law and Policy (IGLP) to hold the "TIJ Workshop for Emerging Leaders on the Rule of Law and Policy" and the "IGLP Workshop," both which will take place from 7 to 12 January, 2018. The collaboration aims to strengthen the capabilities of personnel and agencies involved in justice systems in Thailand, Asia, and the international community through a globally-renowned curriculum designed by professors and experts from the Harvard Law School and the TIJ network.

Prof. Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak, Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice, said, "This program is the first and only course in Asia focused on the rule of law in collaboration with the Harvard Law School. The curriculum has been developed to cover related laws and the judicial process in various dimensions to support the successful application of the rule of law, which is crucial to ending inequality and injustice in society. This will help lay a foundation for sustainable development in accordance with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Number 16 - Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which is one of the 17 SDGs. It connects the rule of law with sustainable development, and also develops human resources and connects people to a network of change agents who can creatively develop society in line with the Thailand 4.0 strategy."

The first program, the TIJ Workshop for Emerging Leaders on the Rule of Law and Policy, is an intensive co-program designed exclusively for young scholars, policymakers, and emerging leaders who want to drive positive change in society and are aware of the importance of the justice system and its link to the policymaking process in Thailand and throughout the ASEAN region. The workshop will unlock their perspectives and focus on issues related to the rule of law, reform of the judicial process, policymaking for sustainable development, reducing inequality, and the capacity to cope with change. There should be practical links between the rule of law and the policymaking process relating to economic, political, and social development at the local, regional, and international levels.

Participants will benefit from the global program and be mentored by international professors and experts from the Harvard network. The TIJ Workshop for Emerging Leaders on the Rule of Law and Policy will take place from 7 to 12 January, 2018, at the Dusit Thani Hotel. Applicants can apply online at www.tijforum.org until 23 October, 2017. Selected participants will receive a full scholarship to attend the workshop. Space is limited to 50 successful applicants.

The second program, the IGLP Workshop, is mainly administered by the Harvard Law School's Institute for Global Law & Policy. The TIJ is providing support in selecting academics and researchers, specifically professors from Thailand, the ASEAN region, and other countries who wish to attend. Participants will share their teaching and research experiences to foster research excellence and increase academic knowledge about the rule of law. They will also share their expertise with students and related personnel in policy advocacy, extending the workshop to a new generation. The IGLP Workshop will take place from 7 to 11 January, 2018, at the Dusit Thani Hotel. It is open to scholars and researchers from Thailand, the ASEAN region, and other countries around the world. Applications will be accepted until 22 September, 2017. Interested academics and scholars are encouraged to apply, or can get more information, at http://iglp.law.harvard.edu/iglp-scholars-workshop.

The TIJ Workshop for Emerging Leaders on the Rule of Law and Policy is related to the Rule of Law and Development Program (RoLD Program) hosted by the TIJ to promote peer-to-peer engagement relating to the rule of law and development issues among participants, professionals, and experts from various domains who offer perspectives in many dimensions. Participants will benefit from both knowledge sharing and networking opportunities with leaders in civil society, as well as the public and private sectors. The collaboration can continue through different activities that could lead to mutual cooperation in reforming justice systems, and moving towards the rule of law for sustainable development.
