With a combined GDP of US$27.25 trillion that is growing rapidly, Asia-Pacific is well on its way to becoming the most important market in the world, opening possibilities for further expansion of trade and investment within the region. This could contribute to job creation, poverty reduction and the boosting of economic growth but to take advantage of such opportunities the region needs to enhance its RECI.
The conference will bring together ministerial and high-level officials as well as representatives from the private sector and academia to identify challenges and propose recommendations to enhance RECI. It will also provide an opportunity to discuss how RECI can most effectively support and contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The conference will comprise two segments: the senior officials segment from 21 to 22 November, followed by the ministerial segment on 23 to 24 November. Several events will be held on the side lines, including the regional launch of ADB's Asian Economic Integration Report 2017, and side-events on regional transport connectivity (co-organized by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization), and the Belt and Road Initiative (co-organized by China).
