Gilmour will be in Cox's Bazar from 2 to 4 March, where he will visit camps housing Rohingya refugees from Myanmar and speak to those who fled across the border in recent weeks. The Assistant Secretary-General will also meet with local government officials and non-governmental organisations, as well as UN and other humanitarian partners.
In Dhaka on 5 March, Gilmour is due to meet with senior Government officials and representatives from Bangladesh's National Human Rights Commission to discuss the human rights situation in Cox's Bazar.
At the end of his four-day visit, the UN Assistant Secretary-General will issue a statement to the media.
Andrew Gilmour (United Kingdom) assumed his functions as UN Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights on 1 October 2016, heading OHCHR's Office in New York. In October 2016, Mr. Gilmour was designated by the UN Secretary-General as senior official to lead the efforts within the UN system to address intimidation and reprisals against those cooperating with the UN on human rights.
