The very first edition of Thai Night at Filmart impresses Filmart delegates

Last night, Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi was presiding over Thai Night Hong Kong 2018 - Where Films Come Alive, an event of celebration of Thai film and entertainment industry, held on the occasion of the Hong Kong Filmart 2018.

The event was extremely well attended by Filmart delegates from Asia and beyond, as well as representatives from 23 Thai film companies representing the leading players across the Thai film industry, from production to production services, post, VFX and distribution.

In 2017, a record 810 foreign productions chose Thailand as their shooting destination, which demonstrates the Thai film industry's progress in attracting and collaborating with foreign productions.

During her speech, HRH Ubolratana Rajakanya listed several factors which explain the strengths of the Thai film industry: "Firstly, our country offers beautiful sceneries and a great variety of environments, from the futuristic skyline of Bangkok to our pristine beaches. What is even better, the quality of our locations is matched by the world-famous Thai hospitality. Secondly, and more importantly, Thailand offers outstanding production services, combining world-class facilities and equipment with internationally-experienced crews. In addition, the Thai film industry is known as one of Asia's most advanced post-production hubs, offering state-of-the-art sound and picture post services, visual effects and CGI animation, enabling foreign productions to complete their projects in Thailand, from start to finish".

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Commerce, Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawong, highlighted the priorities of the Royal Thai Ministry of Commerce to support the Thai film industry's continuous growth and expands its international reach: "reinforcing the skill sets of our industry professionals, boosting the export of Thai content, fostering new partnerships between the public and private sectors, and attracting foreign investments in the entertainment sector".

These policies will complement the already existing film incentive programme which was launched in 2017. The tax rebate program offers up to 20% cash rebate for local production expenditures that exceeds US$1.5 million.
