Bangkok--23 Apr--Ministry of Commerce

The Ministry of Commerce has launched the Thai Rice Flagship Store on Tmall.com website as part of efforts to push the sale of Thai rice in the online Chinese market. The opening was honored by Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, and Executive Chairman, Mr. Jack Ma at the Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen's Park, Bangkok, Thailand.

On this occasion, Minister of Commerce, Mr. Sontirat Sontijirawong, says that "the Ministry of Commerce is a key institution responsible for driving Thailand 4.0 and building a digital economy by emphasizing local product enhancement and global business opportunities, particularly in e-Commerce, which opens the doors for Thai entrepreneurs to sell in international markets. The Thai Rice Flagship Store on Tmall.com's website is a collaboration initiative providing full access for Thai entrepreneurs, farmers, rice exporters, and rice products to the e-Commerce market in China. Further, more research is being done to explore possibilities of expansion to more products on the platform."

"Thai products are seeing a big trend in China, especially Thai agricultural and food products, which are known for their good quality. Entrepeneurs which will initially sell on the Thai Rice Flagship Store platform must offer rice and innovative Thai rice products, and be a registered seller of the official online Thai marketplace operated by the Thai government, known as Thaitrade.com. This will ensure guaranteed quality and trustworthy products for the Chinese consumers," explains Mr. Sontirat.

In addition to launching the Thai Rice Flagship Store on Tmall.com, Mr. Sontirat further explains that, "The Ministry of Commerce launched a full-fledge campaign for durian on Tmall.com, and also has ongoing policies to promote the trade of other Thai fruits, especially the most liked fruits by the Chinese market, including mangosteen, mango, coconut, custard apple, and more. This is a good pathway for bringing Thai fruits to online channels in China, and to develop entrepreneurs to access global e-Commerce trade. For those who are at early stage of developing their business online, the MOU signed today between The Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Industry and Alibaba Business School, an institution under Alibaba.com will strengthen Thai entrepreneurial trade capability. Ultimately, this will drive Thai products and services towards larger international trade opportunities.

Tmall.com is the largest retail, B2C website in China under Alibaba Group, offering all kinds of products to more than 1.4 billion people across the country. Thus, establishing the Thai Rice Flagship Store on Tmall.com opens opportunities for selling Thai rice and innovative Thai rice products to Chinese consumers. To become part of the project, businesses can register themselves as a seller on Thaitrade.com to prepare for entering the Chinese market.
