Chocolate & Wine: A Match Made in Heaven / The Sweeter Side of Tasting

Monday 20 August 2018 11:55
In a match already made in heaven, the award-winning 137 Pillars House Chiang Mai is bringing together the classic combination of chocolate and wine this month in a passionately curated event.

Chocolate like wine is complex food and this unique pairing of the food of gods with the nectar of the gods will allow guests to appreciate the subtlety and complexity of the textures and flavours that both wine and chocolate have in common. To truly savour this tasting experience, you have to tune in to all five senses. Imagine the smooth curves of the glass. The rustle of the paper as the first chocolate is unwrapped, and the gurgle of wine being poured. Observe the rich colours, note the aromas, before you finally focus on the sophisticated taste profiles.

The evening will see both Old and New World wines from different wineries artfully paired with a selection of handcrafted Belgian chocolate. The five wines from Bangkok Beer & Beverages Co. Ltd (BB&B) include a white (Yalumba Y Series Viognier, Australia), two reds (Cono Sur Bicicleta Pinot Noir, Chile; Gerard Bertrand Cote des Roses Rouge, France), a sweet sparkling wine (Villa Sandi Dolce, Italy), and a Port wine (Cockburn Fine Ruby Port, Portugal). Each of these wines from BB&B will be paired with two different types of chocolate provided by Gallothai Chocolate. BB&B wine expert Nicolas Beaulieu, who grew up in Bordeaux and has more than 10 years working in the Asian wine industry, will be on hand to guide guests through the complexities and nuances of the tasting.

Scheduled for 24 August at The Dining Room, the decadent event, which runs from

6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. is priced at THB 1,000 ++ per person, and will also include an assortment of delicious canapes.
