Chaozhou, Ceramic Capital of China Makes Debut at NYC Times Square

September 24 marked Mid-Autumn Festival in China. On the same day, the promo video of the city Chaozhou, China, produced by Chaozhou government, was shown in Times Square, stunning the world with bone china. Chaozhou, known as the ceramic capital of China, is a cultural city with more than 2,000 years of history. While sending best wishes and regards to Chinese around the world on this special occasion, the promo video also showcased the unique charm and cultural confidence of this coastal city on the international stage.

Ceramics are a cultural symbol for Chaozhou at home and abroad, as they have been produced here since the Tang and Song dynasties. Now, the thousand-year-old ceramic industry has developed as the pillar industry of Chaozhou, making it one of the largest production bases of ceramics in China. Empowered by science, technology and innovation, the city has been striving to stand out among international competitors by upgrading the traditional ceramic industry. Innovations in 3D printing for ceramics, advanced microwave high-speed drying and firing, R&D in ceramic electronic components and glass ceramics are the major drivers that steer the industry towards automatic, smart and clean production.

Innovations that combine modern technologies with traditional craftsmanship are also found in Chaozhou's woodcarving, embroidery and other intangible cultural heritages in addition to ceramics traditional crafts with new features bring opportunities for better development, making modern industries like woodcarving and embroidered clothing boom. In addition, Chaozhou is seeking new boosters in emerging industries. In the following three years, it plans to build five industrial clusters each with a value of 50 billion yuan in five fields, namely, ceramics, food, new materials, new energy and biomedicine.

In the beginning of a new era, Chaozhou, the eastern gateway to Guangdong, is giving full play to the courage, passion and entrepreneurship of the local people.
