Have you ever felt like speaking for nothing? Where the audience is talking to themselves? How does it feel when the audience does not pay attention to what you have to say? It might be because they are uninterested or the speaker makes it boring. The real reason comes from the absence of preparation and lack of influence.

Dr. Andrew Stotz joined Bnow.org, a networking community for business, during a workshop on how to "Become a Great Presenter and Increase your Influence". Andrew's career has put him in a position to present in front of audiences around the world for over 30 years. He teaches how to make a great presentation to help people to make a bigger impact in the world. At the workshop, he shared with the audience how to make their next presentation great and how such a presentation can influence the audience.

The workshop started with him sharing his life story on how his presentation made an impact on his students and his colleagues. Andrew led the audience to reflect on their future presentations and how impactful it will be for both the presenter and the attendees.

1. The first thing that a presentation need is a goal. Without a goal, the audience will feel lost.
2. After the objective has been established, the presenter needs to provide clear evidence and facts to prove the points.
3. Add stories to back up the evidence. People can be either rational or emotional when listening to a speaker and the presenter needs to appeal to both sides.
4. The last step is to prepare for any objection the audience might have. According to Andrew, a great presentation does not have any questions, and that to create such a presentation is the ultimate challenge.

Andrew made an example using Warren Buffet's quote, the CEO of Berkshire Hathaway "You can have all the brainpower in the world, but you've got to be able to transmit it." Andrew further explained the importance of communication, where an idea has to be communicated properly, otherwise, it cannot influence anyone.

"It's easy to make a presentation but it's usually poorly made. Some people take hours to make a presentation but it doesn't influence anyone either because it's too complicated or not well prepared. In this case, no one will be interested in what you have to say, you need to make it interesting for your audience. The people attending your presentation are there for themselves not for you. So, you need to ask yourself what do you want your audience to do when the presentation is over," explained Andrew Stotz.
