“Mitr Phol-Banpu Solidarity to Aid Thailand on COVID-19 Confrontation Endowment” Hands Over 200,000 Pieces of Cloth Face Masks

Mitr Phol Group and Banpu Public Company Limited led by Mr. Buntoeng Vongkusolkit, Vice Chairman of the Board and Chairman of The Executive Committee, Mr. Verajet Vongkusolkit, Chief Executive Officer of Thai Sugar, Energy and New Business Group - Mitr Phol Group, and Mr. Rattapon Sukhunthee, Vice President - Corporate Communications of Banpu Public Company Limited, handed over 200,000 pieces of cloth face masks with a value of THB 4 million to the Prime Minister’s Office on behalf of “Mitr Phol-Banpu Solidarity to Aid Thailand on COVID-19 Confrontation Endowment”. The cloth face masks were received by General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, and his team at the Violet Room, the Thai Khu Fah Building, Government House. The Prime Minister’s Office will then distribute cloth face masks to government officials, military and police officers, doctors, nurses and all medical personnel in order to strengthen the protection of frontline workers currently working hard to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

About Mitr Phol-Banpu Solidarity to Aid Thailand on COVID-19 Confrontation Endowment

Mitr Phol-Banpu Solidarity to Aid Thailand on COVID-19 Confrontation Endowment, an endowment with a value of THB 500 million, was collaboratively established in March 2020 by Mitr Phol Group and Banpu Public Company Limited. The Mitr Phol-Banpu endowment has a main objective of supporting corresponding agencies with medical and public health equipment necessary for prevention and mitigation of COVID-19 in Thailand. At the moment the Mitr Phol-Banpu endowment has acquired medical equipment and supplies worth THB 180 million, which are being distributed to more than 100 hospitals and public health departments all over the country. Mitr Phol Group and Banpu Public Company Limited also intend to carry on the mission of allocating funds of Mitr Phol-Banpu Solidarity to Aid Thailand on COVID-19 Confrontation Endowment as a crucial part that supports Thailand to get through this time of crisis in a smooth and rapid manner.

Since early February with the COVID-19 outbreak starting in Thailand, Mitr Phol Group has been providing crucial medical supplies such as 400,000 liters of alcohol sterilizer derived from pure ethanol and alcohol-based hand sanitizer to hospitals across Thailand including provincial, district hospitals and sub-district health promoting hospitals (SHPHs), educational institution, and more than 160 organizations throughout the country. Currently, Mitr Phol Group is in the process of distributing additional medical equipment to hospitals and public health centers across the country, comprising 20 positive and negative pressure isolation rooms, 3 sets of CT-Scan machines, 4 ventilator machines, 6 pulse oximeter devices, 30,000 pieces of N95 respirators, 10,000 pieces of surgical masks, 400,000 muslin masks, 10,000 pieces of PPE suits, and 32 hospital beds.

Banpu Public Company Limited has also consistently provided necessary and urgent supports and help to hospitals and corresponding medical organizations. Our supports include providing Thammasat University Hospital with THB 30 million for construction and renovation of negative pressure rooms and ventilator procurement, donating THB 5 million for Medical Association of Thailand in order to support the life insurance project to 280,000 doctors and nurses nationwide, donating THB 2 million for the Thai Red Cross Society as part of the manufacturing of 10 million pieces of cloth face masks and dispatching 180,000 “Stream of Generosity for Life” relief kits, supporting provincial hospitals in procurement of medical supplies, such as ventilator machines, medical thermometers, air-conditioning maintenance in hospital wards, and medical workers' personal protective equipment, with a total value of more than THB 13 million to Golden Jubilee Medical Center in Nakhon Pathom province, Sanam Chai Ket Hospital and Buddhasothorn Hospital in Chacoengsao province, Pranangklao Hospital and Pak Kret Hospital in Nonthaburi province, and Sathing Phra Hospital in Songkhla province, and ordering 1,500,000 pieces of Washable Innovative Nano-Masks for distribution to the public all over Thailand. Besides, Banpu Public Company Limited is also preparing to dispatch N95 surgical masks and PPE protective equipment to district hospitals in three southern border provinces of Thailand, and is distributing survival kits to people in Bangkok’s perimeter whose jobs are tremendously affected by COVID-19.
