Bangkok--22 May--Lanna SoftWorks Company
Being prepared for the next large-scale cyber-attack is a task that should always be a top priority for a Chief Technology Officer or IT Manager.

David Turner, Chief Executive Officer of Chiang-Mai-based Lanna SoftWorks Company Ltd, said that even if companies were not affected by last weekend's 'ransom-ware' attack, that event should act as a huge wake-up call to IT departments around Thailand, and more generally around the world.

Turner, the head of the experienced IT outsourcing company, said: "For those businesses impacted it's already too late to be prepared for this particular attack."
"But what I think this incident shows is the need for all companies, and especially those with large networks, to be prepared for a worst-case scenario and have a disaster recovery plan in place."
Turner suggested that just one weak link in an IT infrastructure is all that is needed to become vulnerable to an attack such as the one we saw in mid-May.

He suggested that IT managers need to ensure that all computers within a company network are running the latest, patched, version of Microsoft Windows, MacOS or whatever operating system you are using, and that all company computers are installed with the latest version of anti-virus software."

He added: "Staff should also be made aware of the dangers of how opening a single email attachment that you are not expecting can, quite literally, bring a company to its knees."
