for 2-week ICT Study Trip

Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, is hosting a ICT study trip to Beijing and Shenzhen for the 10 most outstanding students in Thailand, for the company's Seeds for the Future Program.

This year's participants, all undergraduates from Chulalongkorn University, Mahidol University International College, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi and Thammasat University, were selected on the basis of their academic achievements and profiles.

The Thailand delegation will be joined by those from Mauritius, Mali and Norway for one week in Beijing to do a basic Chinese language course, and visits to key sites. This will be immediately followed by a full week in Shenzhen, for hands-on training in cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, LTE and cloud computing at the Huawei Technologies Headquarters, and visits to F1 Exhibition Centre; Enterprise Exhibition Hall; Logistics Centre; R&D labs and one of Huawei's state-of-the- art factory facilities. They will have the chance to interact with some of the finest professionals in the industry.

"Born in Bangkok"

Originally set up in 2008, the Seeds for the Future program was initiated in Thailand and has evolved into Huawei's global CSR flagship program. Thailand was the pioneer country for this project, and today, its success has spread to over 125 countries worldwide. It provides an excellent opportunity for young people about to embark on their careers to learn about China and experience Huawei's dynamic global business. Its purpose is to develop local talent and enhance knowledge transfer, so that one day, more people will have the qualifications to become role players in the digital community of Thailand, the region and beyond.

During a recent workshop to welcome the selected students along with their professors and mentors, Digital Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj said "This 2-week trip will help open your eyes and inspire you. The 5G Testbed in Sri Racha will be an important collaborative project that we must develop together. Over the next 5 years, a workforce of 180,000 people will be required. This study trip is an excellent opportunity for you to focus and learn as much as you can, and bring back the knowledge to further develop our country. I would also like to thank Huawei, an active force in the public sector, for continuously organizing this program that will help incubate digital talents."

Mr Deng Feng, Deputy Managing Director of Huawei Thailand, advised them to effectively utilize their time in China, take advantage of the ICT expertise and experience and ensure knowledge transfer to their universities, workplaces and the country. "Learn all that you can, so you can help Thailand in the near future achieve its wish to become a digital hub in the region, and to contribute as we all work together to make Thailand 4.0 a reality. Always remember to do all you can to help create a more vibrant and connected world," he said.

Over the years, Huawei has not only led IT industry development with its cutting-edge 5G and cloud computing technologies, but has also invested heavily in cultivating ICT professionals. In Southeast Asia alone, Huawei has developed over 8,000 ICT talents in 2018 through its Open Labs, ICT Training, scholarships, competitions and Seeds for the Future Program. Huawei is committed to promoting the development of the ICT industry in the countries where it operates to support long-term socioeconomic and environmental sustainability.
