MDES depa Partners Meet PM Before Mobile Cabinet Meeting to Present Digital Solutions to Improve Peoples Quality of Life

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) by the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa) led its alliances and partners in presenting the digital solutions created to help enhance management efficiency of each digital-driven development project and to improve the quality of life of people in communities in preparation for entering the era of digital economy and society. They also welcomed the prime minister and cabinet ministers before starting a mobile cabinet meeting.

Mr.Buddhipongse Punnakanta, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), together with Dr.Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President/CEO of depa, and a group of executives from Advanced Info Service (AIS), Verily Vision, and people with disabilities from the Theeratorn Club for People with Disabilities, held exhibition booths and welcomed Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha and cabinet ministers before a mobile cabinet meeting at Star Convention Hotel in Rayong. The exhibition booths showcased the latest progress and outstanding achievements of digital-oriented development projects and digital solutions ever supported by the MDES and the depa. Highlights of the exhibition booths are as follows;

The “depa PM2.5” application: it was developed in collaboration with the depa’s IoT & Digital Innovation Institute and AIS. The application is used by local people in three provinces in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), comprising Chonburi, Rayong and Chachoengsao, as a digital solution to deal with the PM2.5 dust particle problem and air pollution in the EEC. The digital solution aims to improve the quality of life of people in communities in those three provinces. The initiative is aligned with the smart city development roadmap in the category of “Smart Environment”. Air quality and pollution sensors and temperature and humidity monitoring devices were installed to monitor and detect the volume of PM2.5. All data collected through the air-quality detection system will be transferred to AIS’s IoT-based “Magellen” platform using the NB-IoT network in order to evaluate the air quality and to provide PM2.5 report in real-time via the “depa PM2.5” application.Container Truck Gate Automation by Verily Vision, a digital startup alliance of the depa, is an e-gate solution developed to improve the overall efficiency of port and terminal gate automation. It is a cost-effective application that is catered for port and terminal operators to automate both in-gate and out-gate operations of the terminals. It also benefits container terminal operators, warehouse and logistics operators to process containers coming on and off vessels. The gate solution is also beneficial to large-scale industries and factories to enhance overall operational and cost efficiency. With smart process automation, the Container Truck Gate Automation boosts terminal efficiency and enhances productivity while ensuring smooth and efficient container and truck flows. It collects data for community enterprises by automatically reading and recording license plates of each truck entering and leaving the terminals. The gate automation application is executed by the “Deep Learning” technology using CCTV cameras and sensors for traffic information acquisition. The gate solution is also applicable for a gate kiosk for automated driver identification as a driver can also submit additional data. The automation solution for ports and container terminals is in line with the smart city development in terms of Smart Mobility.Smart farming project created to support people with disabilities initiated by the Theeratorn Club for People with Disabilities at Klaeng District in Rayong, the depa encouraged the club to adopt digital technologies and to leverage IT capabilities to establish the smart farming platform for an agricultural irrigation management system in the vegetable cultivation. The smart management of freshwater for precision irrigation in agriculture worked through sensor data collection using smart phone. The smart farming solution optimized irrigation efficiency and provided people with disabilities with greater convenience in looking after the agricultural production. It improved the quality of life of people with disabilities and helped boost income for farmers from earlier 1,500 baht per month to 1,800 baht per farmer per month.

Dr. Nuttapon said the depa is committed to encouraging all segments in society to adopt digital technologies and innovation to enhance the efficiency of business operations and organizational management. The depa has also promoted and supported communities to succeed the achievement of local wisdom using standardized digital technologies and innovation. Meanwhile, communities can choose to adopt and utilize the right digital technologies from the provided list of registered digital solutions, technologies and innovation certified by the depa that suit the nature of their businesses.

“The depa will not figure out the absolute solutions or even move everything forward in favor of communities, but the depa will teach communities about how to formulate the idea and translate it into practice in order to promote learning, examination, analytical thinking and looking at insights into digital technologies before adopting and utilizing them. Doing so, it will help elevate the quality of life of people in the communities in the sustainable manner. It is also a preparation for the country to move forward on the path to Thailand 4.0 era soon,” said President/CEO of depa.
