Hong Kong was at the pinnacle of beauty and glamour. With Victoria Harbour as the backdrop, complemented with uplifting music and the dazzling pyrotechnic display at the Two International Finance Centre (Two ifc), the “Hong Kong’s New Year Countdown Celebrations” created a lasting impression on everyone in Hong Kong and overseas as they ushered in 2009.

Mr James Tien, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), hoped that the event would herald messages of hope for both Hong Kong people and visitors for a new year. “We sincerely hope that people in Hong Kong will rise to the challenges and embrace opportunities ahead with faith and confidence. At the same time, we believe that international media coverage of the event will once again showcase Hong Kong’s strong appeal as a cosmopolitan city.”

Mr Thomas Kwok, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Hung Kai Properties said, “Our company works to build a better Hong Kong as part of our commitment to ‘building homes with heart’. We are again sponsoring the countdown at ifc to celebrate the New Year with the people of Hong Kong. With the countdown at a major Hong Kong landmark, it should again draw international attention like last year. The colourful pyrotechnic show will symbolize our city’s vibrancy in a prosperous year ahead. I’m sure that the solidarity and perseverance of Hong Kong people will lead the city to a brighter future.”

Dr The Hon Lee Shau-kee, Chairman of Henderson Land Group said, “Henderson Land is committed to bringing enjoyment to the public by supporting territory-wide and international events. We are delighted to participate in the New Year Eve’s countdown again this year. The spectacular pyrotechnic show displayed on Hong Kong’s icon, Two ifc, not only brings festive joy, but also symbolises new hope for 2009. May I wish Hong Kong everlasting prosperity in the years to come!”

The five-minute choreographed musical pyrotechnic show of the “Hong Kong’s New Year Countdown Celebrations” is organised by the HKTB, presented by International Finance Centre and supported by Henderson Land Development Company Limited and Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited. Besides Two ifc, a total of nine other buildings on Hong Kong Island also participated in the pyrotechnic show tonight. The theme song of the event was composed by renowned musician Mr Peter Kam and performed by local singers.
