U Chiang Mai made a difference to Baan Kingkaew’s orphanage on Valentine’s Day. Surapan Somthai, general manager and U team recently presented a check of Baht 50,000 to Khunying Raveephan Sucharitkul, president of the foundation to help support children’s education. Food, games and fun were also provided for 20 orphans, aged 4-5 years old with a sweet ending of the party with a song sung by all the children to thanks U team for their contribution.

“Even though Tourism is one of the industries that is most affected by the global economic recession, we still believe that these children and many other people out there that are in need of help and support more than us.” said Surapan Somthai, general manager of U Chiang Mai.

“U Make a Difference” is a brand wide programme to support organisations that serve a local community in the area where U Hotels & Resorts are located. For U Chiang Mai we have chosen Baan Kingkaew Orphanage, the first charitable foundation in Chiang Mai province. The foundation dedicates itself to the care of needy children by an orphanage for children aged from birth to 5 years, providing scholarships for the education through high school for older children as well as creating activities to keep the children away from drugs. The hotel contributes Baht 30 for every paid room night that will go to the fund to contribute to the charity twice a year.
