Centara’s new Koh Chang resort has great value rates for extended winter getaways

Many people who have retired, or who find themselves with more leisure time and are planning extended overseas trips, dream of spending time on a tropical island, where the cost of living is low, the air is fresh and clean, the sea warm and clear, and the sun shines every day.

This is a particularly attractive notion for those who live in the colder climes of northern Europe and in the United Kingdom, and is one reason why so many residents from these regions visit Thailand.

Centara Hotels & Resorts, which has recently opened Koh Chang Tropicana Resort & Spa on Koh Chang, Thailand’s second largest island, is offering special rates for visitors who wish to spend extended periods on the island.

When staying for a minimum of seven nights between now and 31 October 2012 the rate for a Superior room is Baht 2,000 baht nett and a Cabana Suite is Baht 3,800 baht nett.

“Koh Chang and its environs is one of the most scenic regions of Thailand,” says Chris Bailey, Centara’s senior vice president for sales and marketing. “As part of Mu Koh Chang National Park, the whole area is one of outstanding natural beauty.

“The island itself is largely covered by rain forest, and there are easy walking trails through the forest and along the beach. There are fifty other islands in the national park, which can be explored by boat, and the diving and snorkelling are magnificent.

“The sea is crystal clear and the beach is soft white sand. For anyone dreaming of a long break on a peaceful tropical island, it would be difficult to find somewhere better than Koh Chang.”

Koh Chang Tropicana Resort & Spa is located at Klong Prao Beach, in the centre of Koh Chang's west coast, and features an oceanfront swimming pool, water sports and spa.

The resort’s 157 spacious rooms and suites are designed to enhance the sensation of living in a tropical beach setting and are contained in two wings, Superior and Deluxe, spread throughout landscaped gardens. The Superior wing features low-rise architecture accentuated by full glass frontages, with the rooms surrounding the swimming pool and Jacuzzi, while the Deluxe wing uses natural materials and thatched roofs to blend seamlessly with the rustic feel of the ocean-side setting.

Set amongst the palm trees, the resort's main swimming pool is directly on the beachfront and has its own Jacuzzi. A second swimming pool is set within the gardens.

The Spa offers body wraps, massages, steam baths, and an array of signature spa treatments designed to thoroughly relax, with private rooms for singles and couples and a soothing beachside ambience. Being set directly on the beach, the resort offers a range of beach activities and water sports that include volleyball and kayaking, while snorkelling and fishing equipment are available on request and boat and inland tours are organised at the travel desk.

Koh Chang is situated off the coast of Trat province and is accessible all year round by ferry. The resort is easily reached via the island's ring road, the journey from the landing pier taking approximately 30 minutes. Trat has its own airport handling domestic flights.
