The inaugural exhibition at Gallery de la Paix will run until February 28.
Luang Prabang-born Mr. Siamkha is one of Laos' leading young lensmen, as well as the hotel's own Front Office Manager and Photographer-in-Residence. His work is highly regarded in Laos and beyond. Mr. Siamkha's work captures magical moments of Luang Prabang life shot in and around this famously photogenic town.
This premiere exhibition at the new Gallery de la Paix is the latest in a series of photography-based initiatives for guests and the local community created by Hotel de la Paix, which last year hosted the Jack Picone and Stephen Dupont Documentary Photography Workshop.
Hotel de la Paix, Luang Prabang's General Manager, Kevin M. O'Hagan said he was thrilled to host the exhibition and for the hotel to showcase the work of one of its own.
"This is just the beginning of a series of exhibitions, workshops and other initiatives to support and bring to light young and talented photographers in Laos as well as other artists specializing in other media — such as painting and sculpture," Mr. O'Hagan said.
It also marks the first major exhibition held in Gallery de la Paix, a new art space in the hotel's new Baan Silipa arts and culture village.
Mr. Siamkha said he was looking forward to the exhibition launch and in introducing his body of work to Hotel de la Paix guests. From a start in photography working for Laos's Department of Information and Culture he last year won the first prize in the inaugural 'My Life' photo contest at Project Space Luang Prabang.
