Bangkok--26 Mar--Movenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket

Green Globe announces re-certification of Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket in Phuket, Thailand. With a proactive approach to identifying and promoting ecologically sustainable strategies, the property has for several years demonstrated its commitment to corporate social responsibility. Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts attributes the success of its conservation efforts to the integration of sustainability policies into the company’s business strategy.

“We are very proud of our achievement with Green Globe,” said Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket General Manager Hansruedi Frutiger, “The resort is committed to promoting sustainability and our commitment is reflected in our management principles and our daily practices. It is our goal to reduce the environmental impact at all levels, and to encourage our partners and stakeholders to do the same. We invite you to join us in the year ahead as we embark on a journey to explore the past, present and future of sustainable development.”

The long-term sustainability management system in effect at the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket includes daily energy consumption monitoring and water usage reduction targets. Fresh water is sourced from a company-owned treatment plant, located in the nearby municipality. Overall waste reduction targets are achieved through comprehensive reuse/recycle and packaging minimisation initiatives, while purchasing policy favours suppliers adhering to ecological sustainability practices. Recently, the hotel introduced a new line of eco-friendly water bottles and bathroom amenities. The property incorporates traditional Thai influences into its aesthetic profile and service philosophy, and supports community-based activities which highlight the area’s environmental, historic and cultural identity.

Commenting on his organisation’s second issuance of the resort’s accreditation was Green Globe Certification CEO Guido Bauer: “We are extremely pleased to award certification to the Mövenpick Resort & Spa Karon Beach Phuket. The property is a member of The GreenLeaf Foundation, dedicated to developing both the quality of the environment and the tourism industry. Educational training seminars on energy efficiency and environmental standards are being held on a regular basis. Mövenpick Hotels and Resorts is one of the largest hotel groups to commit to Green Globe Certification for all properties worldwide.”
