Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan, President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), presided over the opening of “THAI’s 6th Energy Fair” at THAI’s Head Office, with Mr. Niruj Maneepun, THAI Executive Vice President, Human Resources & Compliance, and Mr. Udomdej Kongtaveelert, Managing Director, Bureau Veritas (Thailand).

Dr. Sorajak Kasemsuvan said environmental and energy conversation is of great importance to today’s society. As the national carrier of Thailand, THAI conducts business operations with awareness to social and environmental impact based on the “Travel Green” concept, such as supporting the use of aviation biofuels in the commercial aviation industry and seeking new energy-saving aircraft. “THAI’s 6th Energy Fair” was organized to boost employee environmental awareness and to encourage employees to help save energy in the workplace as well as at home on a daily basis. Employees were urged to help use water and electricity efficiently and to reduce utility expenses in the workplace. During “THAI’s 6th Energy Fair,” Bureau Veritas (Thailand) presented the ISO 50001: 2011 certificate to THAI, the first airline in the world to receive ISO 50001: 2011 standardized certification for energy conservation.

THAI received cooperation from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, Ministry of Energy, and leading companies such as TRUE Corporation Co., Ltd., Nippon Chemical Co. Ltd., 3M (Thailand) Co. Ltd., TOA Paint (Thailand) Co. Ltd., Toyota BUZZ Co. Ltd., Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Co. Ltd., Millennium Auto Co. Ltd., providing employees with tips and knowledge about alternative sources of energy, ways to save energy, and how to select products and services that promote energy and environmental conservation.

THAI has received a number of awards in energy conservation. In 2000 and 2011, THAI received the Thailand Energy Award for efforts in energy conservation. THAI was also awarded for excellence in energy conservation in buildings, for creative ideas implemented in buildings that help save energy, and the ASEAN Energy Award under the New and Existing Building Category.
