“Experiencing a Legacy: Baron Philippe de Rothschild Wine Dinner held by Royal Cliff’s deVine Club”

On Wednesday July 24th 2013, the Royal Cliff Hotels Group’s deVine Club held an unforgettable ‘Baron Philippe de Rothschild Wine Dinner’ in the Royal Grill Room & Wine Cellar for club members and wine lovers alike. The wine dinner event was generously co-sponsored by Ambrose Wine Limited; Thailand's fourth largest importer of wines and spirits.

The well-attended event commenced with a pre-dinner cocktail in the Beach Hotel’s Lobby Bar, where guests were treated to Le Ros? de Mouton Cadet 2011 accompanied by Executive Chef Walter Thenisch’s Deluxe Canap?s. Managing Director of Royal Cliff Hotels Group, Mrs. Panga Vathanakul along with Vice-President Mr. Vathanai Vathanakul and Executive Director Mr. Vitanart Vathanakul led the executive team to warmly welcome everyone to the event. Also in attendance was Lt. Chawalit Techapaibul —Executive Chairman, Ambrose Wine Limited., Lt. Somphon Charumilinda —Managing Director, Ambrose Wine Limited and Khun Jirawat Lohsiriphat —Senior Sales Manager, Ambrose Wine Limited.

The ambiance at the Royal Grill Room & Wine Cellar reflected elements of French cuisine as a testament to the Rothschild brand. Royal Cliff General Manager Christoph Voegeli introduced Ms. Alice Agnellet, a representative from Baron Philippe de Rothschild who was present as the evening’s guest speaker and wine expert. Building on her proficiency in French wines and in order to widen her knowledge, she decided in 2012 to join the famous Japanese Sommelier Association and become a wine expert.

While Ms. Agnellet introduced the legacy of Baron Philippe de Rothschild wines, the guests began dinner with a Spring Salad with shrimp and salmon rillettes, tuna crab meat sandwich with pink ginger roasted beet root foam creatively paired with Mouton Cadet Sauvignon Blanc 2011; a scrumptious start to the evening’s pageant of flavours. The following courses did not wane in taste and presentation, but in fact escalated towards true “deVine dining”. Baked cod loin wrapped in Parma ham and fresh sage on small ratatouille sauce verjus served with the Mouton Cadet Bordeaux 2011, following closely by Veal "Fricass?e” with spring vegetables balanced with Mouton Cadet Reserve Medoc 2011.

The piece de r?sistance was undoubtedly the perfect marriage between the sensational Slow Roasted Premium Beef Tenderloin with chanterelle mushrooms and new potatoes rosemary jus and Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pouillac 2007. The Pouillac was passionately described as “nectar of the gods”.

As the evening came to a close, the Royal Cliff culinary team devised a dessert that encapsulated the spirit of Baron Philippe de Rothschild and deVine Club at its best: the Poire belle H?l?ne with Vanilla ice cream served with dessert wine at its finest: Chateau Raymond-Lafon Sauternes 1996.

deVine Wine Club was launched on 28th April 2001 as the visible face of the resort's enthusiasm for promoting wines and hosting wine-related events. It has enjoyed tremendous success from its very first function. Today, membership has grown substantially and we are now Asia’s leading wine club.
