THAI Organizes 1st TG Travel Green Innovation Competition

Mr. Chokchai Panyayong, THAI Senior Executive Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, and Acting President, and Ms. Marie-louise Phillippe, Airbus Regional Sales Director, together chaired the award presentation ceremony of the First TG Travel Green Innovation Competition, which encourages Thai youths to be creative in the area of green aviation innovation. The First prize is a roundtrip ticket from Bangkok to Paris on THAI and a visit to the Airbus aircraft manufacturing center in Toulouse, France.

Mr. Chokchai Panyayong, THAI Senior Executive Vice President, Strategy and Business Development, and Acting President, said that as the national carrier THAI conducts its business operations with recognition to the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) based on the “travel green” concept. In an effort to boost environmental awareness, the Company organized the First TG Travel Green Innovation Contest inviting students from academic institutions nationwide to participate and submit their projects during November 2013 – January 2014. The competition goals were to create environmentally friendly innovations and products that may be used in aviation and to create a network for youths who have an interest in designing environmentally friendly innovations and products.

The First TG Travel Green Innovation Award Competition was judged by representatives from Airbus, the National Innovation Agency, professor from the Faculty of Engineering at Kasetsart University, professor from the Faculty of Architecture at King Mongkut’s University of Technology Ladkrabang, and a THAI representative. Students from 18 institutions across the country participated in the competition and submitted 72 projects as an individual contestant or as a two-member team, with a professor as an advisor. The competition consisted of three categories, with three awards per category. The First Place award includes a roundtrip ticket from Bangkok to Paris on THAI and a visit to the Airbus aircraft manufacturing center in France sponsored by Airbus. The Second Place prize is a roundtrip ticket from Bangkok to Japan and the Third Place prize is a roundtrip ticket from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

Projects submitted and winners in respective categories:

1. Aviation Design Idea: Present an environmentally friendly aviation innovation for the airline industry. A total of 27 projects were submitted, with the following winners:

First Place: ePushback project from Kasetsart University

- Mr. Jeerapan Jankaew and Mr. Panuwut Porntrakulsak

Second Place: Sky Thermal Energy Conversion (SkyTEC) from Kasetsart University

- Mr. Pattarapong Ponprueksa and Mr. Sirapob Catteeyothai

Third Place: Hydrogen Fuel Cell vs. Aviation from Kasetsart Univerity

- Mr. Keerati Sadeedej and Ms. Pareena Wittayapaisitsant

2. Product Design and Facilitating Convenience in Aviation: Propose an idea for a product and for facilitating convenience in aviation, which must coincide with the THAI Contemporary Style of the passenger cabin interiors. A total of 31 projects were submitted, with following winners:

First Place: none

Second Place: none

Third Place: Three projects received third place:

1) Projected Seat Number from Kasetsart University

- Mr. Suraj Kishnani and Mr. Natthapong Warin

2) Pulley System for Overhead Baggage from Kasetsart University

- Mr. Suraj Kishnani and Mr. Natthapong Warin

3) Carrier Wheelchair from Kasetsart University, Sriracha Campus

- Mr. Chayapat Kaewthong and Mr. Bannasit Prakobsuk

3. Design for Service Provision Procedure in Airline Business: Propose a creative idea on the service provision process in airline business and is environmentally-friendly. A total of 14 projects were submitted, with the following winners:

First Place: Violet – a Framework for Customer Ecosystem – Friendly Flight Service from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi

- Mr. Suthat Ronglong

- Mr. Photcharapon Ronglong

Second Place: none

Third Place: Two projects received third place:

1) Press – Point – Play from the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce

- Mr. Attapong Jakkrawantanarak and Mr. Kitti Koonsanit

2) Royal Green Rewards from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi

- Mr. Kris Pikraw and Mr. Pongsatorn Dhanabordeephat

THAI conducts Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities on a regular basis and in 2013 received three awards: 1) CSRI Recognition Award in the general category from the Corporate Social Responsibility Institute: CSR, 2) awarded for report on permanence in the category of excellence from the CSR Club, and 3) awarded in the area of social responsibility 2013 from the Stock Exchange of Thailand under the SET Awards 2013.

The First TG Travel Green Innovation Competition received cooperation and support from Airbus, the National Innovation Agency, the Faculty of Engineering of Kasetsart University and the Faculty of Architecture of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Ladkrabang, with a total of 18 academic institutions participating.
