Yet to decide where to celebrate the long holidays in April and May? Considering avoiding the aqua avalanche by heading overseas? Global travel search company Skyscanner today revealed its top local and international destinations for the upcoming peak travel weekend and the summer months ahead.

Skyscanner Marketing Manager - Thailand, Ms. Grace Pobpabha Areerat, said there are still some great value destinations available for last minute bookings.

“Helping users plan their perfect vacations for over 10 years, we have come to really understand our travelers and their needs. Our flight data reveals that the five most affordable last minute destinations during this time include Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Yangon and Siem Reap. There are some great bargains to be snapped up if you are still considering a quick, dry getaway,” she said.

“If you would rather experience Thailand’s rich culture or its beautiful nature, then the top five most popular local destinations this year are Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui and Krabi. These destinations are proving popular year on year, with Bangkok searches up 52 per cent, Phuket up 77 per cent, Chiang Mai up 118 per cent, Koh Samui up 120 per cent and Krabi up 128 per cent from 2013,” added Ms. Areerat.

Overall, search for flights within in Thailand are up 99 per cent from last year heading into this Songkran holiday period, suggesting an increase in travellers planning to see the country during the holidays.

“These figures show us Thai people are still keen to travel and make the most of the vacation time, but they are looking to get more value for their money at locations that are closer to home,” said Ms. Areerat.

“To get the best deals, we recommend taking advantage of the Skyscanner website or downloading the app, and starting your search. Skyscanner’s Month View search tool will show you the best times to travel, or you can look for flights on less popular days of the week, particularly if you are flexible with your time or have a bit of holiday leave up your sleeve,” she said.

If you are set on your travel dates but not on a destination and are looking for some inspiration, Skyscanner can find the best flight options and discover top places around the world with its popular ‘Everywhere’ search.

“For those with a limited budget but limitless imagination, we recommend giving our Search Everywhere tool a go, which will find the cheapest destinations to travel to during a specific date period.”
