“Thai AirAsia X”, Thailand’s first low fare, long haul carrier, builds on the unceasing popularity of travel to Japan among the Thai public and kicks off 2015 with new daily direct flights from Bangkok (DMK) to New Chitose Airport (CTS) of Sapporo on Japan’s Hokkaido Island. The new route begins service this 1 May onward and launches with a promotional fare starting at only 3,990 THB* per trip. Bookings are available from today (10 February) at 13.00 hrs for BIG Card holders via and from 23.00 hrs via until 15 February 2015 for travel from 1 May 2015 to 26 March 2016.

Mr. Nadda Buranasiri, CEO of Thai AirAsia X, remarked that in the past year the airline has seen rapid growth in travel between Thailand and Japan with Japan becoming one of Thailand’s most popular destinations. Thai AirAsia X takes pride in the fact that it played a role in establishing the success. The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) indicated that in 2014, a total of 657,600 Thai citizens traveled to Japan, an increase of 45% compared to the previous year. Divided into types, Group Inclusive Tours (G.I.T) made up 50% of the figure with Free Independent Travelers (F.I.T) making up the other 50%. Nonetheless, the F.I.T segment has shown the greatest growth potential, which is in line with Thai AirAsia X’s targets.

“This year, we are ready to fully enter the Japanese market through our new route from Bangkok to Sapporo on Hokkaido Island, which is a dream destination many have been waiting for as it is a destination “for all seasons” with highlights throughout the year. Visitors can see blooming Sakura flowers in the spring (April-May), witness the lavender fields in the summer (June-August), watch the trees change color in the fall (September-November) and enjoy skiing during the winter (December-February)” Mr. Nadda explained.

With the addition of Sapporo, Thai AirAsia X now has a more complete network across the regions of Japan. From 26 March onward, the airline will be increasing the frequency of its Bangkok-Tokyo route to 2 times per day and its Bangkok-Osaka route to daily. Combined with the Bangkok-Sapporo route, Thai AirAsia X will fly 4 times daily to Japan, providing over 3,000 seats to the nation and affirming its status as a Japan Expert.

Thai AirAsia X has also joined with Thai AirAsia to offer Fly-Thru service to passengers from Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket and Krabi. They may all easily reach Sapporo, Japan by connecting through Don Mueang Airport without the need to check-in twice and with their baggage sent directly to their final destination. Travelers from Japan may also use the Fly-Thru service to connect to provinces of Thailand or even to other countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Vietnam.

To celebrate the launch of the new route, Thai AirAsia X is providing a promotional fare starting at only 3,990 THB* per way or 9,990 THB per way on Business Class, inclusive of airport tax and fees.
