Markus Kaliss, general manager, participated together with the hotel's heads of departments, planting and harvest morning glory from the hotel's 1st homegrown herb garden. This initiative comes as one of the hotel's activities to celebrate the Earth Week and from Hilton Phuket's commitment to embrace a more sustainable presence in the island. The herb garden commencement complements other efforts of the resort to preserve the environment such as implementing a food waste prevention program and signing a pledge to reduce the use of plastic at the resort.
A homegrown herb garden provides many benefits apart from enabling sustainability: It saves costs and time for getting fresh ingredients to the kitchen and it is a great source of health and a stress reliever for harvesters. Furthermore, morning glory presents many purifying, calming and cleansing effects making it a great and nutritive food to accompany any meal.
"This garden is a great first step for us in our purpose of becoming a more self-sustainable hotel. Our gardening team has done a great job in making this happen and we are looking forward to produce more homegrown vegetables and herbs", said Markus Kaliss, general manager, Hilton Phuket.
The first harvest was destined to Hilton Phuket's staff canteen for all team members to enjoy the first delicious and fresh produce of many more to come.
