Xsense Information Service Co., Ltd., Thailand's leading developer of vehicle tracking and fleet management system, launches a new Tourism Safety Support and Management System to help track tourists both on land and in the sea so the officials can rescue them in case of emergencies.

The company has worked with CAT Telecom, Thai Embedded Systems Association (TESA), the National Innovation Agency (Public Organization) (NIA), and local tour operators to start the system's pilot test in Phuket.

Developed by Thai developers at Xsense, Mrs. Thitima Suwanarat, the Managing Director of Xsense, said that the system was designed in accordance with the safety standards under the regulations of Thai government.

The system will help track tourists for security and safety purpose by detecting when an accident occurs through wristband or sensor attached to the life jacket then sending notification to the Control and Command Center to give immediate assistance.

The system is flexible and can be applied according to users' needs. It can be used through both web and mobile devices.

"During the past years, a number of tourists has lost and this makes a serious concern among related organizations on Thai tourism safety standards. This project comes to help Thailand tackle the problem and move up itself to international level in tourism," Mrs. Thitima said.

CAT Telecom's President Colonel Sanpachai Huvanandana said that in the project, CAT supports Long-Range Wide Area Network to test sensor system implemented on ships and those attached on tourists' life jackets around the Andaman Sea.

"We start the first pilot project in Phuket and we're ready to provide Lorawan network to cover other vital areas especially in major tourism provinces to help ensure tourists' safety," he said.

Dr. Watchara Chatwiriya, the President of Thai Embedded Systems Association (TESA), said the association helps coordinate with government agencies and other partners to bring the member's product into a pilot test.

"We take an important role in strengthening our member to grow and be more competitive in the market," he said.

Mr. Pariwat Wongsamran, the Director of Innovative Entrepreneurship Development at NIA, said that NIA offers a mechanism to promote and support Thai entrepreneurs to bring their products into commercialization through not only funding but also coordination to enable them to work with government agencies.

As Tourism Safety Support and Management System is flexible, it can be applied to use in various purposes including tracking tour boats, cargo vessels, or land vehicles. The system is easy-to-use, allowing users to control and manage the system through a single window.

The system also includes a hotspot feature to offer Internet access to tourists even in the middle of the sea. It supports several networks including Lora, VHM as well as Thai mobile operators' networks.

Three Tracking Systems

In the project, three tracking systems are in trials.

Tourist Location System using wristbands and sensors attached on life jackets. The devices will detect and send an alert to the Control and Command Center when help is needed.

Automatic Identification System to track tour boats. The system will show the boat's location and its surroundings, detect the boat's speed, and offer navigation system to monitor the boat's movement, evaluate risk possibility and its activities in accordance with the government's control measures.

GPS Vehicle Tracking System to track tourists' transportation transfer. The system can track the vehicle in real time with video display. It will alert if the vehicle enters dangerous areas or when it's over speed. The vehicle's location can be shared with relevant agencies such as hospitals and rescue units in case of emergencies or accidents to maintain safety in life for tourists.

Control and Command Center System

If emergency incidents occur, the tracking system will notify the incidents to the Control and Command Center, allowing the officials to know the vehicle's or tourists' location for immediate assistance. Information will be sent and proceeded to show on the center's display screen. Weather forecast is included to monitor daily boat trips.

Coordination center will be established at main hospitals' information center with relevant officials and translators to assist casualties.

Additionally, tracking information will be analyzed to know tourists' behavior for further planning in developing tourism destinations.

Xsense : Thai Software Developer with Trusted Experiences

With over 15-year-experience in developing vehicle tracking system, Xsense received several outstanding awards including Software Park Thailand's Hall of Fame 2009 and an award from the Army Research Day 2014. The company developed vehicle tracking system used in SCG's 5,000 logistic vehicles, covering transportation areas in Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. Such experiences have guaranteed the company's software development capabilities as a leading vehicle tracking system developer with international-standard Control and Command Center.

The launch of the new Tourism Safety Support and Management System is Xsense's another step to pace into tourism industry with a hope to utilize its expertise to leverage the standards of tourism in Thailand.

Port operators, travel agents, both land and sea tour operators, and related tourism government agencies are the company's main target.

"We hope that the new tourism tracking system will help leverage Thai tourism industry to grow sustainably in line with the government's Thailand 4.0 policy," Mrs. Thitima said.
